#owncloud closed literally hundrets of issues in their public desktop client repo today. Lots of work by many people was put in there. Closed as "not planned" today. Ok.

Alternativ gibt es noch einen relativ neuen aber eventuell ganz vielversprechenden Fork von Owncloud: OpenCloud

Das kann man nach deren Aussage in ganz klein sogar auf einem Raspberry Pi laufen lassen, und für große Installationen auf Kubernetes werden zumindest Helm-Charts versprochen ...

@thoralf Ich fände interessant ob #heinlein den #ownCloud Client aktiv ausgesperrt hat, oder ob es bereits so kurz nach dem Fork Inkompatibilitäten gibt. Ehrlich gesagt hätte ich vermutet, dass der Client funktioniert. Bei #oCIS war die Konfiguration aber auch nicht ganz trivial um das zum Laufen zu kriegen.
Meine Frau und ich würden uns gegenseitig gerne dauerhaft den #Standort teilen.

A polish friend just told me about freeshell.de. I think I should have known about it sooner so I'm slow to this party but it feels very interesting.

@fancypants @cjwr1ght just be aware that #owncloud is the original (but now laggard & corporate) fork of #NextCloud (the lead dev forked his own code when the company he'd started 'got away from him' & started proprietrising things in ways he didn't agree with), and it's just a shadow of NC. It's like LibreOffice is to OpenOffice (after the community forked it). The corporatised fork withers and fades into obscurity because without the community, they're nothing special.

@cjwr1ght People swear by Nextcloud, I could never get it to feel like I wasn't in an early-00s ASP back end.
Not #FOSS obviously, but I use my #Synology NAS as a really robust Google Drive replacement.
I was using their Photos app too until I got #immich working as I wanted.
I'll checkout #owncloud though - I'd rather be FOSSing it.

Das kann man im Privatumfeld verwenden, sicherlich auch in kleinen Firmen. Unperformant wird es dann, wenn man ein paar hundert Nutzer hat. Die will man nämlich nicht lokal haben, die will man in einem Directory haben (LDAP). Ja, das geht. Und es ist schmerzhaft. Probierts aus! Und wir reden noch gar nicht von Gruppen, das geht nämlich nicht, jedenfalls nicht in der freien Nextcloud-Version (korrigiert mich, wenn ich falsch liege)
Und damit zu #Azure: Dessen Stärke ist gar nicht so sehr das Teilen von Dateien, wie es NC und Dropbox und… können, nein, dessen Stärke ist #entra, also das Identity Management.
Du kannst halt andere Organisationen, die auch bei Azure sind, schnell (aber nicht unbedingt unkompliziert) zum Beispiel an Dein #Jenkins anbinden.
Ja, geht auch mit #keycloak. Wenn Du eine IT-Abteilung hast, die das pflegt.
TL;DR: Es gibt auf Jahre oder Jahrzehnte im geschäftlichen Bereich keine Alternative zu Azure.

Awesome. Spaces, an AppStore and amazing Office Integration. Mind the speed. When I was at #owncloud, we measured that the Go! version was up to seven times faster than our older PHP version, owncloud classic. Seems like the #opencloud people could keep that advantage. Are there any technical white papers or presentations concerning the DecomposedFS storage abstraction?
I've read the owncloud blog post, press release and some github and found a lot of inaccuracies and unclear reasoning.
At the moment my impression is, that DecomposedFS effectively tries to reinvent the required metadata DB functionality on top of the FS.
