Abgesehen davon, wir LinuxMint wiederum nicht KDE bzw. Plasma Desktop anbieten.

Gestern wurde Wayland Protocols 1.43 veröffentlicht. Neben einigen behobenen Fehlern bietet das neue Protokoll zwei Verbesserungen. Das XDG-Shell-Protokoll wurde mit edge constraints ausgestattet. Im XDG-Shell-Protokoll sind diese Randbeschränkungen eine Ergänzung zum gekachelten Zustand.

I built a latency meter with an Arduino and a photo transistor to answer one question: Is click-to-photon latency higher on Wayland than on X11?
And the answer is: Yes, actually.
42 ms on X11, compositing off 56 ms on X11, compositing on 64 ms on Wayland 71 ms on Windows 10
Tested with Plasma 6.3.4 and Firefox 137. I will improve my methods and confirm these numbers. See replies for details.
I am using #gnome48 with #wayland on #manjaro #linux (kernel 6.14) and have the problem that in #bitwigstudio (#flatpak) to rename a Cue Marker, it takes two clicks on the respective Cue Marker to accept keyboard input for renaming.
Bitwig support says this does not happen on their officially supported platform, Ubuntu. What could possibly be causing this?

Anyone else running a #Wayland WM under #Wlroots and it freezes your computer to the point that nothing works not even switching TTY ? I thought it was #RiverWM related but it happens with #SwayWM too. If I don't start a Wayland session my computer is fine all day. But under Wayland I'm starting to get these random freezes like twice a day and the only cure is to hold the power button. I mean I'm tempted to revert back to X11 for stability so any info or ideas would be gratefully received. Oh and I'm running #FreeBSD too.

@codemonkeymike@fosstodon.org For X11 sessions the easiest would probably be putting it into ~/.xprofile or /etc/xprofile but not sure whether something similar exists for #Wayland

2025, the year I switch from wayland to Xorg.
Why? Because I bought a new screen.
Huh? Well, I don't know either.
Plasma 6 on wayland worked fine with my fullhd-screen. Yesterday, I powered the box down, switched to my new hi(gher)dpi screen, powered it on, got the bios post, boot messages, and a black screen instead of sddm. An hour later I found that sddms wayland support is experimental still, so I switched it to X, and got a black screen when my plasma-wayland session was to start. So, switched to plasma-x11 and everything is fine.
Other compositor (tested sway) are fine. 
Don't know if it's nixos or plasma, I'll probably try a live usb later.
So yeah, it's the year 2025 and I'm on X. Well, could be worse, could be the other X.
Used #DisplayCal with my #ColorMunki spectro to adjust brightness/contrast/RGB of a VA-type HD monitor tonight; happy I can at least do that basic adjustment, it's miraculous that it works thanks to @hub's Flatpak time capsule of that app. I'm hoping the Python3 version eventually takes over and thrives as a project.
I hope #Wayland color mngt will bring robust calibration & ICC profiles mngt in #GNOME someday; colord has been broken for years, and I don't trust my current Xorg-era ICCs either.

I would like to try #Wayland one day, but my preferred #windowManager, #EXWM, does not yet have an equivalent there 
I'm stuck on #X11 forever.
After using daily sway-wm (#Wayland) for years, I went back i3-wm (#xorg) for about a week, and I miss Wayland so much. For example on Firefox the scroll is so rough (even scrolling just the tab bar is awful!), while on sway was silk smooth.
In case you are wondering, I am back to i3-wm because of #KiCAD, that officially does not support Wayland, and I can confirm it has several nasty problems.
Sigh, the impasse continues.
- #Spectacle works fine in #Wayland, but still does not include tabs so that multiple shots can be open simultaneously
- #Ksnip was the premier GUI screenshot in X11 after the demise of #Shutter, via tabs for multiple shots can be open simultaneously, but does not work in Wayland

It all makes perfect sense to me theoretically, but I am greatly interested in seeing how it will fare in practice with end users.

The reason I am looking into #automation with #gnome / #ubuntu is because I'm building a prototype control panel to further streamline my multi-monitor/multi-workspace workflow.
If it looks blunt, that's because I'm not an artist, design will come later.
Right now I can switch workspaces, activate windows and control media playback.
Works better on #x11 than #wayland though. It's one of the few places where I I am thinking: "This would have been a lot easier in Windows".
