I stumbled upon an interesting blog today while searching for an image of the Silicon Graphics 3D cube logo. Named "Abort Retry Fail" by Bradford Morgan White, the blog's articles document computer history. I eventually wound up reading three of them.

SGI Octane in its natural habitat with epic lighting effects, dramatic angles and more computing power than necessary for rendering a GIF. 
Probably just booted my (16 processor) SGI Origin-2000 for the last time. (Moving to a smaller space, selling off most of my computer collection.)

- #PCIexpress [tho usuallly only ISA+PCI)-based #backplane systems are not only common in #industrial setups but perfectly possible.
If I had more money than sense I would've build something similar to #sgi's #NumaLink-based systems with the #UltraStation.
