@danderson personally, I prefer to go with either 48V, 20V, 12V or 5V in DC application depending on what's convenient.

The 7,9x5,5mm ThinkPad barrel jack can do up to 11,5A originally, giving you 230W at the plug end.

Pretty shure they did standardize it for 16A given all classic thinkPads used it except the very old ones.

That being said #USB-C-#PowerDelivery rocks and there are off-the-shelf ICs and boards to negotiate a ceetain voltage/amperage for any needs.

Second best is #PoE++ 802.3bt Type 4 which is ~ 60V and gets you 100W and at least 87W at the device end.

@justdude definitely too big for my needs, but I got a very special price on it, so it was a no brainer... I ended placing there even things I didn't planned to, like the fiber modem and my pc, so I saved some space and messy cables around the house...
The camera is an #hikvision hwi-b120, is an old model but I don't need nothing more than an #RTSP stream, so is a tough piece of hardware at a fair price... but definitely nothing to write home about.
After installing all I discovered it didn't support #PoE, so I had to use a PoE splitter at the camera end...

@RecoveredExpert Leider nicht. Ist aber such eine Idee... dann könnte ich den #PoE2 induzierten Rage-Quit nutzen, um den via #PoE betriebenen Taster via LAN mittels #HomeAssistant in ein kompletted Blackout des Hauses zu schicken....

No matter how much you plan, you WILL need to pass another #cat6 #cable for #ethernet
In this case, I have two #PoE devices (a camera and an access point) and I don't want to spend 100€ on a PoE passthrough switch (plus the energy it will consume from now on...)

1. I finally figured out how to combine my 2 mastodon accounts. It wasn't that hard and I can't believe it took me so long to do it! Forgive me for the double posts and thank you for putting up with them.
