@futurebird
c.f. the short story "God's Hooks!" by Howard Waldrop.

Apparently set shortly after the Great Fire of London, it starts as kind of slice of life vignette about a gathering of dudes who just love eating and catching fish. Toward the end takes on themes of faith, obsessive pursuit of The Big One, and apocalypse.

Kovenlore Chronicles is a 7-novel #adventure #romantasy series, Riparia Dellbane the unlikely heroine pulled into helping save dystopian Carrdia. There’s elaborate worldbuilding & a diverse cast.

All 7 novels (plus 2 novellas) are already written.

The 1st book in the series, Trust in the Forgotten, is published, the sequel coming in late spring. Currently on Amazon, it’ll eventually go wide.

#BookReview The Great When by Alan Moore.
(Very short review)
The year is 1949, and young Dennis Knuckleyard has got hold of a book that does not belong in his version of London - he needs to get it back to the Great When, where it has come from. I loved the language in this book, the characters, (some are human, some are broader, embodied ideas which live in the Great When) and the pacing. Some violence, mostly implied.
First in a new series.

#BookReview: The Fox Wife by Yangsze Choo. Set in Manchuria in 1908, this is a tale of mystery, mythology, magic, romance, and detective fiction. There are moments of violence. The story telling in this is beautiful - the character’s motivations are clear, their stories are believable and all of the characters are well rounded. The scene setting is absolutely transporting. Great pacing. I read this very quickly, and am looking forward to savouring it again. Another very rare 5 stars from me. #AmReading #AsianFiction #AsianAuthor #FantasyFiction #DetectiveFiction #Bookstodon #Manchuria

Inspired by @FibroJedi and his fantastic Novelember page on World Anvil, I decided I'd take a whack at putting together one of my own!

It's pretty rudimentary, but it tracks my progress and stuff pretty nicely! Huge thanks and kudos to Fibro for being such an inspiring presence!

I can't find the words to praiseThe Winds twelve quarters & the compass rose, which contains the first two major short story collections of Ursula K. Le Guin's career. When I read Le Guin I always feel a combination of striking novelty and absolute familiarity. So beautiful.
