Anomander Rake (Malazan) fanart WIP.

Apologies for poor camera-phone-o-vision.... This was going to be a FB only post, but it looked too cool not to crosspost it. I hope the rest of the colours go as well as the parts so far have :)

I’ll have to negotiate the reading order with my wife, but I think we’re covered for a few weeks…

I suspect she’ll want to start with The Last Song of Penelope, since we’ve both read the first two.

Moving Pictures will, in fact, be my first Discworld, so I suspect I’ll start there…

Interesting, intriguing how different people read differently the same books. I am beginning "Resisting AI" by McQuillan, just the intro, and I found it very impressive, straight to the questions I was wondering about the technopolitics of AI... Two persons I quite appreciate intellectually told me the book was "all right", without special enthusiasm. Wondering the read how it will be going on...
Similar things happened already with other books. Asking myself if it has to do with ppl looking for different things when we read, or different backgrounds, or that sometimes we read just too fast, or maybe that I am just the odd guy?! :-)

This week I've been mainly reading, no. 222.

Paula Hawkins art world thriller, The Blue Hour (2024), is a well constructed tale of intrigue around a reclusive artist's live & death. While at times the plot is a little too easy to predict, it remains a satisfying read, delivering is plot turns well and offering a nice vignette of the machinations of dealing with deceased artists' work. So while not as suspenseful as it could be, still a good story well told.

Book Promotion: Since the tragedy of 1994, Agency Division have weilded their authority over matters arcane with relative impunity. Enforcers like Vidcund Därk, collectively known as the Men in Black, serve a single purpose - the absolute eradicaton of magic and those who would use it. This is not an uncommon goal - a group of rogue arcanists known as the Grey Angels have much the same outcome in mind. When a respected mathematics professor obtains a translated copy of the Pnakotic Manuscripts, the hunt is on to determine how he got hold of it. But soon, a bigger crisis unfolds - one that Agency Division can’t keep under wraps.

"A lawsuit filed against Apple in California this week accuses the company of violating the state's false advertising law and other consumer laws, by intentionally misleading customers into thinking that they are purchasing digital e-books from the Apple Books app in perpetuity, when instead they are only purchasing revokable licenses to the books."
macrumors.com/2025/04/02/apple

PS: I'm glad to see this suit. Note that the question is not whether owning is better than licensing, or whether buyers should own rather than merely license the digital books they pay for. The question is whether Apple accurately described the situation in its ads.
