Happy #screenshotsaturday, better late than never. 🥳

Started blocking out the GUI parts of Staff hiring over the weekend. Thankful it wasn't too much work as the GUI system is written in #lua and #xml.

#multimall is starting to finally feel like a cohesive experience instead of a janky pile of debug menus.

In other news my lines script as seen in some of my other posts now produces a fun little graph.

@amarok You are right. But I am not talking to deprecate old languages. I am more talking about stopping to constantly creating new ones. Instead we should be going the path of perfectioning of already existing once. Habe you tried #DLang? Even that exists. There is so many languages around. But why don’t we ditch really outdated stuff, like crypic shell scripts in favour of well structured Languages. And why don’t we stop to always create new languages?

the #rustForLinux back-and-forth is not the first time #linux #kernel maintainers have looked down on technologies outside of their comfort space and being apologists of the shortcomings of their languages and tools

there's this systematic rejection of #cpp and they have not been welcoming to #dlang¹

sometimes, they do get things right, like #git and updating their guidelines for inclusive terminology

¹: hope someone can prove me wrong on this one… whatever happened after that _one_ module written in D?

What happens, when you join two paths in a #programming language when the second one is an absolute one?

join("foo", "/bar")
returns "foo/bar" or "/bar"?

The wonderful @meisterluk wrote a great article about that you might want to read: lukas-prokop.at/articles/2024-

I can not tell what version I'd actually prefer. There are situations where both versions would be "proper".

#Python #Golang #UNIX #POSIX #rust #C++ #CPP #Java #dotNet #Dart #Flutter #Dlang #TCL #Nim #FreePascal #PowerShell #zig

In yet more news, should I learn Rust or stick with D?
Given the state of the D community (and the character of the Rust community) I think I know what the answer will be, but here goes.
I know of a Rust compiler that compiles to 9x targets, can't say the same for D, but D does compile to MIPS R4200...
#programming #rust #RustLang #d #DLang
Feel free to boost.
