Happy 105th birthday to Thousand Oaks resident and veteran Vernon Ricks! Dozens of police, firefighters, fellow veterans, and friends and family turned out to help him celebrate his big day.
When WWII broke out, “only two people from Burbank got drafted, and I was one of them,” he recalled. In the Army, Corporal Ricks was an anti-aircraft gunner who took part in campaigns in New Guinea and the Philippines. He earned two Bronze Stars and a ribbon for helping liberate the Philippines.
Thank you for your service, and happy birthday Cpl. Ricks!
Another great Arbor Earth Day celebration is in the books, and I think this was the best yet. Attendees not only got free compost (thanks, @athensservices) and saw some cool EVs, but also got to check out dozens of other booths with great ideas about sustainability, recycling, and resilience.
The event may be over, but it’s not too late to offer input on the city’s revision of its Active Transportation Plan at toaksatp.org.

Today I signed five more letters in support of bills now working their way through the state legislature in Sacramento. If enacted, these bills will improve the quality of life of residents and businesses here in Thousand Oaks.
