Local update, Qt6.9.0 up and running!! Had been fiddling with this for a while, went over the Qt6.8.* releases that went pretty fine, this one had me puzzled because of the haikuplugin errors, with those "patched" time to run tests with it (probably not fully correct with my skills, but hey, it's working!) :👍

Update on haikuports

Iceweasel got a unofficial port and opens up a new web experience for Haiku.

KDE frameworks KF6 6.9.0 have been released to the Haiku public. Gear24 updates in progress.

Some packages got a revision bump to fix linking/building with ssl3.

One of our Haiku users is fixing tokio-rust for Haiku. Build is fine and test I've ran so far look promising.

RobinHood, an old time (native/basic) webserver, has seen some TLC and has been updated to the publc.

As a fun little exercise, I decided to port Miuki Miu’s (Elizabet Oliveira’s) adorable React Kawaii¹ to Kitten².

Going to write a blog post about the experience but, in the meanwhile, if you want to play with the cute little characters, here you go:

kitten-kawaii.small-web.org

And here’s the source code:

codeberg.org/aral/kitten-kawai

Things to try: the back and forward buttons ;)

¹ react-kawaii.vercel.app
² kitten.small-web.org

SpdLog seems nice. Replaced log4cpp with that in a non trivial application. It looked like log4cpp has been more or less abandoned. Lots of fun to modernize this thing which hasn’t been touched since 2016. All kinds of pretty weird dependencies also makes it interesting. But logging is sorted out now. Also moving from boost:: to std:: for things that have been moved there over the years. Maybe it’s also time to upgrade the used C++ standard from C++11 to something newer.

::: ETHAN LEE | Preserving historical PC games - one Linux port after another 💾:linux:

These are examples to Jedi heroics from Linux community towards common good, yes.

"Linux is open source, it’s easier to keep Linux versions of games running. Rather than wait for whatever 'solution' Microsoft comes up with" ...

Steam has an actual Linux platform now - SteamOS - with a dedicated device: Steam Deck.

404 Media · Meet the Guy Preserving the New History of PC Games, One Linux Port at a TimeEthan Lee has been keeping your favorite indie games running for years by porting them to Linux. Now he wants developers to start thinking about “maintenance” instead of “remasters.”

::: WipeOut - the classic future racer rewritten and ported to Linux :linux: 🚀

How? Well - the source code simply leaked in '22.

There are at least two other ports already: WipEout Phantom Edition / unnamed project by developer XProger.

Legal or not - are we approaching a new era not to be stopped? Code is there with no assets to continue policing the stuff everywhere.

What do YOU think? Good or bad?
