Good overview of Torment Nexus concept. In the end, sci-fi doesn’t teach people to be evil. It simply amplifies today’s evil with tomorrow’s technology.

Guten Morgen!
Heute ein #Zitat von #PhilipKDick:
“Today we live in a society in which spurious realities are manufactured by the media, by governments, by big corporations, by religious groups, political groups. So I ask, in my writing, What is real? Because unceasingly we are bombarded with pseudo-realities manufactured by very sophisticated people using very sophisticated electronic mechanisms. I do not distrust their motives; I distrust their power. They have a lot of it."
“At last! We have created #PreCrime, from the classic #PhilipKDick short story ‘Don’t Create PreCrime’!”
#UK creating ‘murder prediction’ tool to identify people most likely to kill

Did you know that #PhilipKDick coined the term #PreCrime?

Don't get me wrong, I love Philip K. Dick's books. Just let them remain fiction, please.
PS. That also goes for George Orwell and Margaret Atwood.
I've always seen #TheMatrix as a not unlikely destiny for humanity.
We will soon be the less intelligent species competing for the same vital resources and are training them on human behavior without even trying to implement #Asimov's laws.
This can only go the way of #PhilipKDick's #SecondVariety:

(Brilliant, free audiobook.)
Vom Thema her gerade sehr passend.

#PhilipKDick - Der dunkle Schirm. 1989
“This is a mournful discovery:
1)Those who agree with you are insane
2)Those who do not agree with you are in power.”
Philip K. Dick - VALIS (1981)
Ein kluger Satz zum Abend ...
"The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words."

We are currently waiting for a comment from #PhilipKDick. We know he is out there somewhere.

Beautiful
One day they were filming a version of that in my neighbourhood in Vancouver and there were Nazi flags hanging from all the buildings on my street
It was very disconcerting
They had people standing on the corners with sandwich boards explaining what they were doing, knowing it would be upsetting if people walked onto the set without warning

Andrew Leonard continues to write amazing things. He weaves together so many interesting things that you would not normally connect. Phillip K. Dick, Leibniz, tech, politics, Schezwan cooking, spices, journalism, internet, raising kids, Chinese history and so much more
"The Internet has become as useless as the Book of Changes because it will affirm or deny whatever we desire. And I cannot help but connect this unmooring of online truth, this cacophony of digital nonsense, to the state of politics in the United States today.
President Trump spews out insanity on a daily basis and his henchmen routinely say and do the vilest of things and Elon Musk tweets something factually incorrect almost as often as he takes a breath and it all means nothing because nothing means anything.
A quarter of the way through the 21st century, one of humanity’s supreme technical achievements is a network that facilitates the sharing of lies so efficiently that it broke democracy. Would we have elected Donald Trump president a second time, much less a first, if we still had gatekeepers keeping a lid on all the madness?"

Ubik by PKD
Here’s a reel that depicts what I intended to be the overall experience of holding and opening this book. The dust cover depicts the Ubik and the advertisement on the back in relatively normal fashion, only to be revealed as distorted and regressed once the dust cover is removed. All the ads for each chapter in the book are similarly designed.

I went all out on this one. It was a LOT of work: Hand painted end papers, original cover design, original typeset (made in MS Word), custom vintage advertisements, hand sewn endbands, and chisel-trimmed fore edge.
And when all was said and done, I found a glaring typo while flipping through the finished product.
Oh well. It happens.
