Here's the result of the first session of that painting by the way. I wanted to show it to you because I dont think you get my excitement painting on black by just looking at the final image.

It was so mesmerizing! The colors just glow. It's like a dark childrens book illustration. And I love the mountain in the distance. It looks like it tries to grab the village with its shadowy fingers.

I'm still big into oil pastels. I used a winter scene by Monet as a reference to try out painting on black paper and it's quite fascinating.

You dont really get fully rid of the black but for me it conveys the cold running through your bones. I do a lot of travelling in winter months so I connect with seeing a beautiful village but also freezing at the same time.
