#Replication #Kinetics, #Pathogenicity and Virus-induced Cellular Responses of #Cattle-origin #Influenza A(#H5N1) Isolates from #Texas, United States
Source: BioRxIV, AbstractThe host range of HPAIV H5N1 was recently expanded to include ruminants, particularly dairy cattle in the United States. Shortly after, human H5N1 infection was reported in a dairy worker in Texas following exposure to infected cattle. Herein, we rescued the cattle-origin influenza…
#BenCooper aka #Kinetics posted a comparison table between his 20" #MTBrompton conversion and the new ex-works 20" #Brompton #G_Line: https://www.kinetics-online.co.uk/technical-info/g-line-vs-mtbrompton/
@insl: It's now on his website at https://www.kinetics-online.co.uk/custom-builds/recumbent-brompton/ and official: #BenCooper aka #Kinetics plans to offer a #Brompton FWD #recumbent kit in the future!
Citing from there:
"This, with some more development, will be a kit that you can add to your own Brompton – there’s no modification needed to the mainframe, it just replaces the front fork. Watch this space…"
There's even a video of unfolding it!
This solves at least the "problem" what to do with my current Brompton if I buy a G-Line.
#Morphology-dependent #entry #kinetics and #spread of #influenza A virus, BioRxIV: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.08.01.605992v1
We found that cellular junction integrity and mucin do not exert morphology-dependent inhibition of IAV cell-to-cell spread. On the other hand, filamentous #virions confer an advantage under the #pressure exerted by neutralizing #antibodies against #hemagglutinin.
Question for #Chemistry people - I’m looking at a HS text that states the following definition for “catalyst” is now “favoured”:
“A catalyst is a substance which provides an overall reaction with an alternative mechanism having a lower activation energy.”
I seem to recall that the alternative mechanism does NOT have to have a lower activation energy to increase the rate - just the possibility of another pathway will increase the rate.
(I notice that this definition doesn't mention the rate of the overall reaction at all.)
Would it suffice to say that a catalyst is a substance that provides an overall reaction with an alternative mechanism, and leave it at that? The regeneration of the catalyst seems to be assumed, and the rate will increase as a result of the extra pathway.
Eager to hear your (informed) opinions
It’s five in the morning. I’m up and awake, on my first cuppa, and my glamorous assistant is being helpful. Thank you #Bjork #Bjorkthecat #Glamorousassistant #Catsandautimata #Kinetics #Sketchbook #Automata
#DogWalkingGeology from this morning. Here's a lovely wee layer of pale blue elongate kyanite crystals, pale pink elongate andalusite, plus some wee brown round garnets, in schist from Ardalanish Bay. Although the andalusite and kyanite look happy together, they are not actually in equilibrium: this layer has "frozen" during the slow process of converting kyanite to andalusite. Reactions are all about the kinetics! #Metastable #Mull #Moine #RossOfMullGranite #Geology #Minerals #Al2SiO5 #Kinetics
