Ah, the cockerel crows and the full moon glows, a fine moment to scratch at the compost pile.

You’re right, most are merrily skipping through walled gardens, hashtagging selfies and feeding the #dotcons. But seeds don’t need mass attention, they just do need rich compost. That’s what we need to build. Slow, damp, a bit smelly, but fertile.

The #sheeple and not my flock, they belong to the algorithmic shepherds. We’re feeding the stray goats and curious crows.

You don’t convert people by preaching. You do it by making better paths, ones they choose when the old ones crumble. We don’t sell the #openweb like snake oil — we show it, live in it, fix it when it breaks, and compost the crap. It’s #DIY, not #drm

As for silos and skips, good compost needs oxygen, not airtight boxes. So yeah, a messy open pile — full of half-rotten ideas, posts, drama, even the occasional troll turd.

We trust in tools not gatekeepers, the #4opens are the shovels, rakes, and sieves. The people bring the scraps, and over time, it breaks down into something usable.

No army of mods, no paywalls, simple trust, process, and a lot of patience. Think rural anarchism, not startup governance.

On scaling... Ah, the eternal #techshit question, "Does it scale?" That’s the wrong frame. Nature doesn’t scale, it sprawls.

We’re not building an empire. We’re nurturing a network. Think mycelium, not megastructure.

The #OMN isn’t about numbers. It’s about resilience and agency. If it sprouts in some cracks, the monoculture breaks. And yes, nettles welcome

The #Kolektivas, the #fashernista paradoxes, the semi-anarchic infighting, it all goes in the pile. Break it down, stir it up, give it time…

And what do you get? Fluffy, fertile humus — ready for new growth. That’s the cycle. That’s the plan.

@rooftopjaxx yep, in theory, but not in reality, have talked to the guy a few times over the last 5 years but not got anywhere past #NGO #fashernista that soon turns paratish. The is a signal-to-noise issue with @MediaActivist which is the same mess that has repeatedly killed grassroots movements in the past. I cover this a lot on the site hamishcampbell.com/?s=fasherni

Not sure what the useful path is, truth is not likely to help.

I have an #AP account on a #fashernista anarchist server and also on a liberal #mainstreaming server, then boost the post between them - this has a mission to get round the "common sense" blocking on both sides - its #KISS bridge building in imperfect social tech flows.

I think some people don't understand this and just see ME< ME <ME these are the people who likely need to acturly read the site linked to hamishcampbell.com

Composting the Mess to Make Room to Plant

In the swirling chaos of the digital landscape, it's easy to feel lost. The #Fediverse, should be a beacon of hope for a decentralized, community-driven internet, but as always is facing an onslaught of push back and pressures from every direction. The #dotcons loom large, #NGO agendas quietly co-opt grassroots energy, and the #encryptionists lash out with SPAM money to drown out critique. It’s messy, but mess is where compost comes from, and compost is where new life grows. Pick up a […]

hamishcampbell.com/composting-

The victimhood narrative is often a trap, weaponised by the right and co-opted by the #fashernista left to shut down alternatives. It can be used as a tool of control, not liberation. Composting the mess, in part, by refuse to play their game, victimhood, is in part real and in part is used to create moral authority without real action. If we engage on those terms, we just get dragged into performative battles.

Expose the power dynamics, by asking who benefits from this? In the negative sense, it's often gatekeepers who want to control the narrative. NGOs do it for funding, #dotcons for engagement, and #mainstreaming activists for status. A path out of this is reclaiming direct action, which sadly meany in the left abandoned, and the right picked up. We need to take it back, not through reactionary purity politics, but by actually doing the work outside their controlled spaces. A healing path is shifting from identity to process, the current model is all about who is speaking, not what is being built. That’s a dead end. We need #4opens process-driven organising, not personality cults or gatekept “safe spaces.” Make failure visible, one of the biggest weapons against alt movements is pointing out their failures, while #mainstreaming projects hide their rot.

Breaking the cycle:

The right weaponises grievance → to mobilise.

The liberal left weaponises grievance → to control and suppress real challenge.

The alt-left needs to weaponise transparency → to break gatekeeping and rebuild trust.

So the question is: how do we make "openness" an effective tool in this? The #4opens is a step.

It's interesting with all the talk about the project over the last ten years this was never talked about. This is a direct result of the agenda blocking of the #geekproblem, #fashernista agenda and #NGO control. We never actually get to the bits that matter as we are so fussed talking about the bits that don't matter, the ones the groups above push. This is a mess that we urgently need to compost.

I have updated this post. The Open Media Network (#OMN) is a set of tools to empower communities hamishcampbell.com/the-open-me

fediverse-governance.github.io this report is focused on #NGO #fashernista and to a lesser extent #geekproblm, the is useful information from this limited view path.

infrastructureinsights.fund the outreach text on this is nice, but look at who makes up the Review Board and you see the funding at best is poured down the drain, and, at worst, will mishap the #openweb native path we are taking.

And meany more, to help post links in comment for me to add, thanks.

@strypey we need to be careful about academic writing about activism, as the academics generally talked to the #fahernistas in activism as the people making things work where to busy working, and would find the academics pointless. So academia is to often this wish fulfilling #fashernista wank and little to do with how things worked at the time or now. hamishcampbell.com/historys-of

@evan the current world has very strong reactionary forces, this is as much an issue in #FOSS as it is in the #mainstreaming. For a counter culture to become revolutionary it has to sustain itself long enough to have effect, we have to hold this counter culture in place so it can work its logic deep into "common sense"

Without this, long process, we are pushing mear #techchurn and #fashernista mess.

hamishcampbell.com talks a lot about this from organic expirence #KISS

The key to composting the tech mess lies in understanding and addressing the underlying issues. A breakdown of a path:

* Explore Relevant #OMN Hashtags: Look into hashtags like #geekproblem and #fashernista to find discussions and insights that address the problems you're facing. These hashtags may provide valuable perspectives and solutions if you use them based on collective experience.

* Investigate OGB: Check out the URL hamishcampbell.com/outreaching with #OGB (Open Governance Body) to access project descriptions and learn about initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges you're encountering. While the coding site may be temporarily down, the project descriptions can still offer valuable insights.

* Understand the 4opens: Familiarize yourself with the concept of #4opens, which serves as a framework for addressing many of the issues present in the tech ecosystem. The 4opens provide principles for building more open, transparent, and inclusive digital platforms.

By delving into these #OMN resources and frameworks, you can gain a deeper understanding of the issues at hand and discover potential pathways toward solutions. Collaborating with others who share similar goals and values can also amplify the impact of your efforts in navigating and improving the tech landscape.

@volkris click on a few links, and you can find answers, from long expirence that we know work. try #geekproblem #fashernista but you will find a lot of repation, to make a simple point.

The is a URL to #OGB read back, and you can find project descriptions, though the coding site is down at mo, need sysadmin to get it back online.

And the #4opens is a path to mediate most of the mess you express, it's a basic and useful antidote to the #geekproblem.

Hope this helps :)

Artificial intelligence (#AI) into warfare raises ethical, practical, and strategic considerations.

Technological Advancements and Warfare: The use of AI in war introduces new algorithms and technologies that potentially reshape military strategies and tactics. AI is used for tasks like autonomous targeting, decision-making, or logistics optimization.

Ethical Concerns: ethical dilemmas associated with AI-driven warfare. Making killing more "humane" and "responsible" through technological advancements, can lead to a perception of sanitizing violence.

Privatization of Military Command: The shift towards AI in warfare leads to a privatization of military functions, as technology companies play a role in developing and implementing AI systems.

Collateral Damage and Public Perception: Collateral damage ratios like 15 to 1 raises questions about the acceptability of casualties in conflicts where AI is employed. Public confidence and trust in AI-driven warfare become critical issues.

Policy and Governance: Establishing policies and regulations around AI in warfare is crucial. Defining the roles of humans in decision-making processes involving AI and ensuring accountability for actions taken by autonomous systems.

Challenges and Risks: The effectiveness of AI technology in warfare draws parallels with previous tech trends like blockchain and cryptocurrency. There's concern that investing heavily in AI for military purposes will yield little value while causing harm.

Broader Societal Impact: Using AI in warfare will have broader societal implications beyond the battlefield. It will influence public attitudes towards technology, privacy concerns, and the militarization of AI in civilian contexts.

Balance of Innovation and Responsibility: Whether the pursuit of AI in warfare represents progress or merely another trend driven by superficial or misguided thinking #fashernista thinking with potentially dire consequences.

In summary, the integration of AI into warfare demands ethical, legal, and societal implications. The goal should be to leverage technological advancements responsibly, ensuring that human values and principles guide the development and deployment of AI systems in any contexts.
