There are some great tips here for women travelling alone. Both my mother and I have travelled alone both within Australia and overseas - my mother in the 1990s.

I have done a few of these tips when travelling alone myself. Staying at hostels is definitely a great move, but make sure to check that you have booked a woman-only room if that is important to you.
