The unique Arashiyama temple Otagi Nembutsuji (愛宕念仏寺) deep in a canyon in northwest Kyōto has had a long and complicated history, but its distinctiveness today stems from the 20th Century when a head priest commissioned the carving of over a thousand stone rakan (羅漢, based on arhats, adept disciples of the Buddha). Each statue is unique, unlike the stereotype of Asians, and some are really funny. The moss in this shady side of the mountain also adds to their character, sometimes like hair.

Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista dei Celestini

(Trying this again because it came out slightly blurry the first time and I don't know why! Sorry! If it's blurry again, I don't know what to do. ♥️)

The Celestines were a Roman Catholic monastic order founded in 1244. They were invited to come to Bologna in 1368 by nobleman Antonio Di Ubaldino Galluzzi. The church had pretty extensive work done to it during the 16th century and has remained pretty much the the same all these years later.
The Celestines are no longer around and there has been some changes in the function of the church over the years. At one point it was part of the school for engineering. Today it houses state archives and they still hold masses and stuff. (I'm pretty sure - there was a mass timetable on the door)

This isn’t quite Footpath Friday material, but I love walking on streets that look like this.

It’s such an interesting sensory experience. The stones are never quite perfectly level with each other, so every step is a just little different than the last one and requires a bit more attention than walking on flat concrete sidewalks.
