The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act threatens to disenfranchise millions with strict in person requirements for voter registration. This will disproportionately impact service members and civilians abroad, making it harder for us to exercise their right to vote.

Will the #SAVEAct make it harder for #married women to vote? We ask legal experts

The legislation, known as the SAVE Act, looks to make sweeping reforms on voter registration. It was introduced in response to fears about voter fraud, though research has consistently showed that such incidents are exceedingly rare and not a significant factor in American #elections.

A strange thing being said on Facebook.

The MAGA nut jobs are trolling women, who are upset concerning their voter rights, as a result of the "Save Act" which may make it harder for women to vote, if they changed their name.

The thing they keep telling them is:

" Not only are you not authorized, you're not authorized to be authorized. "
What kind of nonsense is that?

ps: the newspeak voting suppression #SAVEAct just passed by the nazis in the Republican controlled Congress, will ironically hit white American women the hardest.

it’s mostly white USian women giving up their last names for their husband’s. African American and American Latino women usually hyphenate.

in Spanish & Portuguese, the conservative (and more machista) convention is to add the last name with “de”; but “of” implies property. so most use “y” because “and” is egalitarian.

The SAVE act “would require everyone registering to vote or updating their registration info to present documentary proof of citizenship in person.”

“This change would disproportionately affect voters of color, millions of people who have taken their spouse’s last name—which includes approx 69M married women—& [others]…who have changed their names, because the law doesn’t specify what docs would be accepted to prove their identity.”
