Today on my blog, a bad bot requested the same URL 30 times in less than a second, all from different IPs from residential and mobile ISPs with faked browser user-agents. I understand if they would have requested 30 different URLs in the same time frame, but 30 times the same URL?

If I would be using a dynamic blog like #WordPress without proper caching, the blog could have been down. Thanks to a static site generator like #Jekyll or #Hugo, I’m just annoyed, but not impacted.

Can someone point me to an explainer on what is happening in the #Hugo SSG (Static Site Generator) community? I hear stuff about "pay for features" but 'm not really sure what is happening. (FTR, I still happily rely on #Jekyll for my sites, but am always willing to try alternatives and Hugo was obviously a possible choice)

Hey, anyone looking for a #website, either #personal or to house an #academic project? @RyanChartier builds and maintains #MinimalComputing sites that run on #Jekyll - they are #secure, #EnergyEfficient, and don't rely on #plugins owned by other corporations. Check out his site at blog.ryan-chartier.net/ - he built my website and then handed me the reins and I'm very happy to have full control over my official page.

I wanted to give my personal site a facelift, so I've been playing with a couple static site generators today.

I started with #Jekyll but couldn't get theming to work properly. I gave #Hugo a shot next and things just worked. I'm still getting the hang of things, but I'm really digging the results!

What are people’s preferred static site generators these days? I used to use Jekyll until an update broke my site. Now I’m using Hugo but I had to downgrade to an old version yesterday because the updates had broken my site. Do I re-configure my Hugo site or is there something better? #StaticSiteGenerator #Jekyll #Hugo

Transitioning my blog #Jekyll to #11ty came with some obstacles. I wrote up a few python scripts to practice my python skills and facilitate some of the drudgery. Well that was the goal, it was more like practicing my #regex skills.

It won't help everyone in the same situation but maybe it'll inspire:

@TerryHancock@m.filmfreedom.net @TerryHancock@realsocial.life I've seen people talking about this option, of converting the whole WordPress site to a static version, and hosting that online.

You'll still need to keep a local PHP version for updates, but the final thing will be just html, javascript, css and images.

A proper static website generator is a good alternative. Like #11ty #hugo or #jekyll
