Was kann schon schiefgehen, wenn eine EvilCorp. deren Geschäftsmodell auf Werbung beruht, Gewalt über das meistgenutzte Interface fürs Web erlangt?

🎉 Google's online search monopoly is officially illegal.

⭐ This is the most important pro-consumer tech news I've seen in ... a while.

▪️"Google is a monopolist"
▪️Other monopolists still facing trial: Meta, Amazon, & Apple.
▪️Regulators have asked for "structural relief" (i.e. breaking Alphabet into, e.g., letters).

Glad the author informs us about G👀gle's latest shit, but WTAF how anyone can be so naieve:
"[All your msgs] will be sent to the cloud for processing ...—albeit anonymized"

AFAIK you need 7 or 12 data points to de-anonymize data.

If someone fscks you over 300 times, why do you think attempt 301 will be any different? 🤦‍♂️

Stop giving G👀gle the benefit of the doubt! 🙄

“[H]aving the world’s biggest advertising company make the most popular Web browser [is] about as smart as letting kids run a candy shop.”

@geoffreyfowler explains why the “#Chrome browser looks a lot like surveillance software.” He recommends #Firefox. (My pick is Safari first, then Firefox.)

The Washington Post · Goodbye, Chrome: Google’s Web browser has become spy softwareBy Geoffrey A. Fowler

#Google's #WEI isn't (just) about blocking adblockers. That's just a 'minor' consequence.

This is about a fight against Open Computing in general, where YOU no longer get to decide what and how you use your devices to access what you want in the way that you want, but G👀gle/M$/Apple.

See f.e. drewdevault.com/2020/06/26/Ven

G👀gle wants to turn the whole internet into their walled garden. So yeah, they're just copying Apple's playbook.
Much innovation, such wow 🙄

drewdevault.comGeneral-purpose OS, special-purpose OS, and now: vendor-purpose OS

IIRC some time ago the idea was floating around to create a new HTTP status/error code: 666

That was for the previous horrible thing that G👀gle did.

How about we implement it this time around? Something like:
- If UserAgent = G👀gle/Chrome/Chromium/etc then return 666 with
"This page was written for the Open Web, but your browser is against that, so we can't serve you this page.
The fix is to switch to #Firefox.
Or circumvent this simple attestation by changing your UserAgent"

Not only that, but it will also force every Android user to install the proprietary G👀gle Play 'services', so that any freedom you thought you had* by Android being Open Source, becomes a total farce.

This is thus *also* about G👀gle getting complete control of every #Android device out there.

*) Which has always been a delusion. Abandoning Android completely is the only solution.

"... the fact remains that Google Chrome is the arbiter of web standards"
"G👀gle's deprecation of the JPEG-XL image format in February in favor of its own patented AVIF format ... does highlight, once again, the disturbing amount of control it has over the platform generally."

"There is not enough interest from the entire ecosystem to continue experimenting with JPEG-XL."

"ecosystem" = G👀gle interest 🖕
