Hier stehe ich wirklich häufig und oft steht auch jemand vor mir – aber noch nie so fotogen wie hier. Gut, dass die kleine X100 immer dabei ist. Das „Fadenkreuz“ habe ich auch erst im fertigen Foto bemerkt. Rät jemand, was auf den Bildschirmen normalerweise angezeigt wird?

I stand here really often and often someone stands in front of me - but never as photogenic as here. It's a good thing that the little X100 is always with me. I only noticed the “crosshairs” in the finished photo. Can anyone guess what is normally shown on the screens?

In der Mittagszeit zeichnet die Sonne ein X in das Atrium des Konrad-Zuse-Hauses auf dem Südstadtcampus in #Rostock. Bis vor wenigen Tagen konnte dort die Ausstellung „Geknebelter Geist – Politische Überwachung und Verfolgung an der Rostocker Universität 1945 bis 1989/90“ besichtigt werden. Inzwischen wird sie an einem anderen Ort gezeigt.

At lunchtime, the sun draws an X in the atrium of the Konrad-Zuse-Haus on the Südstadtcampus in Rostock. Zwei junge Menschen betrachten eine Installation im White Cube der Rostocker Kunsthalle. Als sie fort waren, habe ich gemerkt, wie schwer es ist, weiße Gegenstände in einem weißen Raum zu fotografieren. Erst ihre schwarze Kleidung, die Reflexionen der Glasscheibe und die andere Installation, die wie dunkles Laub aussieht, setzen Akzente im Foto.

Two young people look at an installation in the White Cube of the #Rostock Kunsthalle. When they were gone, I realized how difficult it is to photograph white objects in a white room. #FensterFreitag – Detail des Berringer-Baus in #Rostock. Der Stadtbaudirektor Gustav Wilhelm Berringer entwarf den Gebäudekomplex 1930 für zwei Mädchenschulen. Anfang 2008 wurde das Gebäude durch das Innerstädtische Gymnasium bezogen – nach einer denkmalgerechten Renovierung und Restaurierung im Stil der Neuen Sachlichkeit.

Zum #FotoMontag kommt uns bei Dunkelheit am Kuhtor in #Rostock ein Radfahrer entgegen. Zum Glück hatte er den Fotografen gesehen, der da wohl schon 15 Minuten in der Kälte hockte – bei dunstiger Luft sollte die Straßenlaterne im Hintergrund für eine Silhouette sorgen.

On #PhotoMonday, a cyclist comes towards us in the dark at Kuhtor in Rostock. Luckily, he had seen the photographer, who had probably been sitting there in the cold for 15 minutes - in the hazy air, the street lamp in the background was supposed to create a silhouette.

Zum #StatuenSamstag zeige ich euch den alters- und gramgebeugt sitzenden Nereus als Teil des Möwenbrunnens in #Rostock. Na ja, zumindest einen kleinen Teil davon. Und für den Streetfotografen darf und soll natürlich gern die lebendige Umgebung mit ins Bild. Auf dem Neuen Markt sind immer Menschen unterwegs – manche verweilen, manche laufen wie hier nur über den Platz. Für dieses Foto stand ich einige Minuten mit hochgehaltener Kamera auf der Suche nach dem richtigen Bildausschnitt und auf die richtige Person für den Hintergrund wartend.

For #StatueSaturday, I'm showing you Nereus, bent over with age and grief, as part of the Seagull Fountain in #Rostock. Well, at least a small part of it. And for the street photographer, the lively surroundings can and should of course be included in the picture. There are always people out and about on the Neuer Markt - some lingering, some just walking across the square like here. For this photo, I stood for a few minutes with my camera held up, searching for the right frame and waiting for the right person for the background.

Zum #FotoMontag gibt es eine #Doppelbelichtung, die vor einigen Tagen am Hauptbahnhof in #Hamburg entstanden ist. Ich experimentiere viel zu selten mit dieser in der Kamera integrierten kreativen Möglichkeit. Hier hatte ich mir zum Ziel gesetzt, eine Uhr, eine Halle mit dem Tragwerk und eine Person mit Rollkoffer abzubilden. Die Einstellungen passten ziemlich schnell und so brauchte ich nur wenige Versuche für ein Bild, das mir gefiel.

For #PhotoMonday, here's a #DoubleExposure taken a few days ago at #Hamburg central station. I experiment far too rarely with this creative option integrated into the camera. Here I had set myself the goal of capturing a clock, a hall with the supporting structure and a person with a trolley case. The settings worked pretty quickly and I only needed a few attempts to get an image that I liked.

Vor einigen Wochen, während des Rostocker Weihnachtsmarktes, saßen diese beiden älteren Herren an einer Straßenbahnhaltestelle. Vermutlich hatten sie den Weihnachtsmarkt besucht und wollten wieder nach Hause fahren. Obwohl sie nicht zusammenzugehören schienen, saßen sie auf die gleiche Weise nebeneinander: leicht nach vorne gebeugt und mit den Unterarmen auf den Oberschenkeln.

Some weeks ago during the #Rostock Christmas market these two elderly man were sitting at a streetcar station. Presumably they visited the Christmas market and wanted to go back home. While they didn’t seem to belong together, they were sitting side by side in the same way: slightly bent forward and with the forearms resting on the thighs.

Gestern lief der Abbau des Rostocker Weihnachtsmarktes auf Hochtouren. Der Neue Markt war voll mit Arbeitern, Bauteilen, LKW, Kränen, Staplern und viel Müll. Mit nach oben gerichtetem Blick fand ich aber ein Motiv ganz ohne dieses wuselige Treiben.

Yesterday, the deconstruction of the #Rostock Christmas market was in full swing. The Neuer Markt was full of workers, components, trucks, cranes, forklifts and lots of garbage. Looking upwards, however, I found a motif without any of this hustle and bustle.
