oatmeal<p>Quoting Hanin Majadli: Eva Illouz was a mouthpiece for right-wing propaganda, and in response received a slap</p><p>Majadli discusses how Israel's Education Minister Yoav Kish disqualified Professor Eva Illouz from receiving the Israel Prize due to what he called her "anti-Israeli ideology." The reason cited was her 2021 participation in a petition to the International Criminal Court in The Hague requesting an investigation into whether Israel committed war crimes in the West Bank.</p><p>In response to this disqualification, Illouz stated to Haaretz: "During the last 18 months, I dedicated my energy to writing for the international press with the aspiration to defend Israel. In the most prestigious newspapers in Spain, France, and Germany, I never stopped clarifying that Hamas is a terrorist organization, that Israel had the right to respond to a ground invasion of its territory, that anti-Zionism is an expression of antisemitism, and that the accusations of genocide against it are nothing but a continuation of antisemitic discourse."</p><p>Majadli criticizes Illouz for having been a "loyal mouthpiece for the most right-wing Israeli propaganda" for a year and a half, only to be rejected by the state she defended. Majadli argues that there is little difference between Illouz's response to the war and that of any standard Zionist leftist in Israel.</p><p>She says that Illouz and other Zionist intellectuals who identify as leftists were focusing on "deciphering esoteric shades of antisemitism in the global left" while diverting attention from the violence being carried out in Gaza. Proletarian Rage<p>An Israeli court has extended the detention of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in <a href="https://todon.nl/tags/Gaza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gaza</span></a>, for six months. The ruling, issued Tuesday by the Be’er Sheva Court, classifies him as an “unlawful combatant”, a term that Israel has been extensively using to describe abductees from Gaza.</p><p>Israeli forces kidnapped Dr. Abu Safiya in December 2024 after storming Kamal Adwan Hospital. Soldiers forced him out at gunpoint, destroying the hospital and putting it out of service.</p><p>His family reports that he has suffered severe torture and starvation in Israeli prisons. A lawyer who recently visited him confirmed this.</p><p>Dr. Abu Safiya paid a personal price for his dedication. On October 26, 2024, Israeli forces killed his son, Ibrahim, during a raid on the hospital. Christians for Israel has deep connections with Dutch politics, particularly with the <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ChristenUnie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChristenUnie</span></a> party, with board members in both organizations.</p><p>In an undercover investigation, reporters posed as potential donors and spoke with Nati Rom, who runs a Dutch-registered foundation.
