Quick guess at short, medium & long term effects of US tariffs on trading partners:

Short - US consumers pay the cost in increased prices until US producers/importers establish alternative supply chains

Medium - US business & consumer complaints force Trump to renegotiate with trading partners, claiming small concessions as major gains

Long - 4 years are up and new president scraps most of the tariffs

Very long - a few new factories are built but with US labor costs, prices remain high

the post about heaven issuing retaliatory ass tariffs against the US was no joke lol.

its been raining hard nonstop since this morning and our pumps weren't working properly so our house is flooding again.

Maria Milanović et al. (2025) Successful alien plant species exhibit functional dissimilarity from natives under varied climatic conditions but not under increased nutrient availability. Journal of Vegetation Science 36: e70032. doi.org/10.1111/jvs.70032

Alien and native species increasing in their abundance did not differ in their leaf traits. We found significantly lower specific leaf area (SLA) with an increase in mean annual temperature and lower leaf Potassium with mean annual precipitation. For trait–environment relationships, when compared to native species, successful aliens exhibited an increase in leaf Phosphorus and a decrease in leaf Potassium with an increase in mean annual precipitation. Finally, aliens' SLA decreased in plots with higher mean annual temperatures.

Hell, in retrospect... a huge, early plot point in my debut novel, Fadeout, is that the first protagonist was so disgusted with their actions as an officer of the Protectorate Navy that they semi-faked their own death- and wiped out their identity, all the way down to their gender.

Some of the crew get confused over who or what they are and eventually just take to calling them "the Captain."

Another character is a cis, heterosexual, tomboyish woman who is so mistreated by fellow crewmen on her previous ship that she feels like she's forced to crossdress as a boy to avoid it.

At the time I wrote my first incredibly cringey draft of what would later become my main fictional universe, and the subject of tens of thousands of words, I still identified as a heterosexual cis male.

Now I'm a bisexual, nonbinary femboy.

How things change...
