#TfL's poorly implemented charging system tried to steal 3 pints worth of beer tokens off me last week! This is why if you use them you should regularly check that they've charged you correctly. It seems that if you only use buses they get it right, but if you use trains and tubes they screw up about one journey in 10. TfL's own website for calculating fares doesn't work either (presumably they don't want to make it easy to check for overcharging) but oysterfares.com/fare-finder/ does.

#Transport for #London (TfL) has had its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), in line with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C limit. For the first time, #TfL has set targets across all areas of its business, aiming for a 90% emissions reduction by 2030.

TfL is transitioning to zero-emission vehicles, including over 1,900 of London’s 9,000 buses, and improving energy efficiency across its estate, with plans for solar farms and LED lighting. It aims to source 100% of its electricity from renewables by 2030.

TfL is also reducing carbon in construction, targeting low-carbon materials and emission-free deliveries by 2030. These efforts support London’s goal of becoming a carbon-neutral capital by 2030. The SBTi’s validation confirms TfL’s leadership in climate action.

This does not surprise me. Poor battery quality seems to plague e-bikes with after market kits (and others). BUT there is a failure in relation of the sellers - Amazon and Ebay sell this risky shit all the time with no come back. Maybe they should be forced to take responsibility - and that includes criminal liability.

The Guardian · TfL bans most e-bikes on trains amid concern over igniting batteriesBy Gwyn Topham
#eBike#Safety#TFL

Transport for London caves to #ASLEF pressure and BANS non-folding electric bikes on any tube services, Overground, Elizabeth Line and DLR services.

There is so much to unpack here, but again the reputable bike shop standard electric bike is thrown under the bus down to issues entirely unrelated. Conversion kits that do not meet standards do not automatically make an e-bike!

Cycling Electric · TfL bow to pressure in knee-jerk ban on non-folding e-bikesTransport for London (TfL) has taken the eyebrow-raising step to ban all e-bikes, aside from electric folding models, on most

#Transport for #London (#TfL) has announced a ban on non-folded e-bikes across its transport network, effective 31 March 2025, following safety concerns. While most #ebikes are safe, there have been incidents where non-folding e-bikes caught fire on the network. The ban will apply to the #Tube, #Overground, Elizabeth Line, and #DLR, but foldable e-bikes will still be allowed. TfL’s review, in collaboration with the London Fire Brigade, found that conversion kits for standard cycles pose a higher fire risk. Non-folding e-bikes are already banned on buses and trams. Exceptions include the Woolwich Ferry, river services, and certain coach services. TfL is working with the government to improve e-bike safety. Customers not complying with the ban may face fines up to £1000. TfL is the first #UK operator to enforce such a ban.

Yes - privatisation seldom works in public transporation. While bus and rail privatisation didn't work. The exception was the non-privatised #tfl (Transport for London) which was an embarrassing success.

TfL's most recent rail extensions and all buses are operated on a hybrid model. TfL define the service ticketing, branding etc and private companies operate the trains and buses. If they underperform they are replaced by another.

The TfL boss has now moved to National Rail so we can expect Great British Rail to operate the same hybrid model.

You can get the best of both worlds.
