After waiting months for Rep. #AyannaPressley to send an email update, this is what she finally sent out today.
There isn't a single word in this message to her constituents about what Trump, Musk, and DOGE are doing to the federal government. Not a single fucking word.
I simply Do. Not. Understand. what the fuck these Democrats think they are doing.
This is a five-alarm fire, but our electeds are sipping tea while the country burns.

After waiting more than a month for my U.S. Representative, #AyannaPressley, to send a message to her constituent email list after I subscribed to it, she finally sends this message today, and it literally does not have a single word in it about what Trump and DOGE are doing or what she is doing about it.
What, and I cannot stress this enough, the fuck is wrong with these people? Why aren't they sounding the alarm as loudly as they can through every possible medium?

This is a first for me: a user of one of my #Thunderbird add-ons asked #ChatGPT to create a new add-on implementing a workaround for a problem they say they are having with my add-on, discovered (surprise surprise!) that the add-on ChatGPT created doesn't do what they want it to do, emailed me the ChatGPT-authored add-on, and asked me to help them debug it.
Seriously.

My dad via text in a group chat with my mom and me: I hope all this hype you're generating in the media helps you find a new job!
Me: I'm not doing it to help me get a new job, Dad, I'm doing it to prevent fascists from taking over the country.
My mom, on a phone call five minutes later: Do you think all these news appearances will help you find a new job?

I just bought 4 refurbished #Seagate drives to upgrade the storage in my NAS for more public service data archiving.
(Refurbished OK since I use RAID so if a drive fails I can replace it without losing any data.)
Each of the drives has a QR code to scan to verify that the drive isn't counterfeit.
Seagate has decided that a good security policy is to rate-limit users to one verification every few minutes.
[EDIT: Turns out it's a stability issue, not a security issue. See reply below.]

We canceled and replaced one of our #USAA credit card numbers back in October because we thought there were fraudulent charges on it (it turned out there weren't, but that's a different story).
Yesterday, February 4, 4 months after the number was replaced, USAA sent us a letter through their web site notifying us that the number had been canceled and replaced and what we needed to do about it.
Four. Months. Later.

I'm reading a document published at the VA and this is the first sentence: "VA provides services to 18.5 million Veterans across a wide range of benefits, including medical care, insurance claims, job support and education, home loans, and manages the National Cemeteries."
This is a heavily edited document that went through many people before it was published, and it was distributed to many people. How did they allow such a glaring grammar error in the first sentence?

HOW did it take you this long to figure this out??
Like... telepathic shit has been studied and used for decades by gov entities and never??... Nobody even once thought Hey! The network that's in place could maybe help ??
I'll just sit here and get old while you play around with protons until you graduate to real life humans.
I was literally thinking this morning about posting a rec here about a company that I use that I've been quite happy with in the past, when out of the blue, they sent me an email informing me that they're going to be requiring 2FA starting 3 days from now, and the only form of 2FA they support is email.
It's mind-boggling that any company that cares about security would support email 2FA at all, let alone making it the only option and not supporting WebAuthn or TOTP.

@geospacedman They didn't train ChatGPT to cast close votes? #smdh
On a list I'm on, someone asks for advice protecting a small trans support org worried about e.g. keeping their membership list safe.
Several people respond, "Talk to company <x>, they help non-profits secure infra."
I look at <x>. Its flagship product automates managing security controls in apps like Google Workspace and Slack.
I'm like, this isn't going to help when the subpoenas start flying. Y'all need to change your threat model.

Apparently the hospital food service thinks "baked lentil shepherd's pie" means a pile of lentils with a scoop of mashed potatoes in the middle of it. #wtaf #smdh #yhgtbfkmwts #PanCholLiveToot
I just ate lunch sitting next to a memorial for all the healthcare workers who died at this hospital during the worst of the #COVID pandemic. Now I'm going to go back inside where nearly none of the healthcare workers or patients or visitors are wearing masks. #smdh #CovidIsNotOver
I filed a bug report about incorrect behavior in a #FOSS app which I was able to reproduce immediately after I saw it happen the first time, but then not at all. I mentioned this clearly in my report, followed by, "...so it's intermittent rather than reproducible."
One of the maintainers replied, "I don't see that."
I tried for several minutes to come up with a polite way to say, "Which part of 'intermittent, not reproducible' do you not understand?" then gave up and said nothing.

I complained to Comcast about something via email in 2009. I posted that email on my blog: https://blog.kamens.us/2009/07/02/comcast-still-sending-service-announcements-to-wrong-address/. At the time, I searched for the email addresses of Comcast executives and included them all on the email.
Last night I received email from someone claiming to represent Comcast, trying to bully me into taking down the blog posting.
I responded: "lol no"
Feel free to boost this post for the #StreisandEffect.

It's impossible to change your email address in the Bill.com AP/AR app (https://login.us.bill.com/neo/login). Their help page about this literally says that you have to create a new account with the new address, deactivate the old account, and notify every single entity sending you payments or invoices to switch to the new address. This is some serious stuff. #smdh

When I logged into https://acer.com/ it sent a verification code to my email address, and the code entry page wouldn't let me paste the code from the email; I had to type it manually. Once I changed my email address, they sent another verification code to that address which I was required to enter on another verification page, and that page _did_ allow me to paste the code. #smdh (this one continued in the next post...)

An interstitial page popped up upon login to https://microcenter.com/, demanding that I provide my mobile phone number. Skipping this step was not an option. I don't give my phone number to sites that demand it, so I contacted their customer service via chat and asked them to delete my account. They asked for the email address associated with the account and then deleted the account without first sending me email to confirm that I'm the legitimate owner of the address. #smdh
