Ich hatte mein altes Reise-Notebook zu einem kleinen #Linux-Server für #Python-Skripte umfunktioniert, aber leider gab es den Geist auf. Anstatt mich tagelang zu Tode zu googeln, ließ ich mich von ChatGPT schrittweise durch die Einrichtung leiten. #Linux, #Samba, #User einrichten, #Rechte vergeben, #Python installieren. Toll! 
@Ann_Effes @in_sympathy maybe there should be an #AI whose sole job is to configure #samba, is it's so complex to understand all the possible configuration options.
@sovtechfund Configuring Samba is really not fun. Wish: would you please make a nice GUI for configuring #Samba, similar to how #RaspberryPi made their raspi-config utility (works in both GUI and TUI)?
@Ann_Effes @in_sympathy I too needed those hints. The #samba "fruit" module 
was very helpful, as i have an #iPad with #iPadOS 18.
Building the latest version of samba from source on my Raspberry Pi 5 because whenever I access my share from iPhone or iPad - even though I log in as a registered user - I only have read access.
On a Mac in Finder everything works perfectly well - just like on other Linux/Windows systems.
Hopefully newer SMB version will help.
Or if you guys know what might be the reason - help is greatly appreciated

Next I run #syncthing on my laptop, and on my #homelab #intelN100 #n100 mini pc / server that runs in the cupboard and is very #lowpower I run #proxmox and this also has a #samba share which allows any other network devices to see the media.
With syncthing running, I always have two copies of the media, but for backup I was using #rclone to send an encrypted copy to #googledrive - which I am in the process of switching over to #nextcloud running on #hetzner

We (the Fedora Samba maintainers) just enabled SMB3 Unix Extensions in the Fedora Samba package for Fedora 42.
If you're using mount.cifs it will detected that unix extionsions are available and make use of it!

Unglaublich, wie speicherhungrig #Samba wird, wenn man wirklich große Datenmengen schaufeln will. Den Parameter für "lass es langsam angehen!" hab' ich noch nicht gefunden, aber ein 8GB Swapfile zusätzlich zu den 8GB RAM des #RaspberryPi sorgt zumindest dafür, das der kleine wieder bedienbar und via SSH erreichbar ist.
