Today's Timeline cleanser is an orchid. Dactylorhiza praetermissa subsp. junialis to be exact. This picture is a few years old. They can be expected in my area around May/June and if not looked for they can easely be missed

Also, it looks like this plant is getting some new growth, branching new vines off the main one. Which is great!
It seems to like this spot, growing all over a bush. It has access to sun on the outside of the bush (which is where the flowers are), but shade inside the bush for the lower parts of the vine.
Vanilla flowers seem like they're almost fully open.
I'm watching videos on hand pollination: https://youtu.be/1RdoTcDD2EU?si=2j5k6eb7f_BMdD6M
Not sure if I can pollinate before the flower fully opens but I'll wait just in case. Why am I nervous lol??
#fridayflower #flowerfriday #Flowers are #love #nature heals #Bloomscrolling lifts the spirits #peace to all my #mastodon #friends #orchids These beauties are Spathoglottis plicata
Spotted another vanilla vine in flower. This one is even more accessible. Flowers are opening slowly over the course of many days (like other orchids). I will do my best to pollinate .
Didn't expect to see any orchids on our walk yesterday, so it was a pleasant surprise to catch sight of this rosy hyacinth orchid.
Portrait
A month ago the first flower was opening. I thought there will be eight of them. Looks like it's going to be ten.
Have a productive and fruitful day.
Looks like this vanilla vine might be flowering soon. This is exciting because it's almost in reach and I will try to hand pollinate. Every other time I've seen vanilla flower, the flowers have been 30 feet up in a tree
Time to watch some videos on hand pollinating vanilla.

An diesem Wochenende sind die ersten #Orchideen im Schwarzwald aufgeblüht: das Kleine Knabenkraut oder Kleiner Hundswurz (lat. Anacamptis morio).
Today in the language of "both/and":
Imperfect and beautiful
Imperfect and vibrant
Imperfect and unique
Imperfect and... (what would you add?)
I'm a decent green thumb, but #orchids are one of those flowers I'm much better at photographing than growing. Super excited for the Orchid Fair at the #EnjoyCentre in #StAlbert this wknd. This means new work coming soon! For now, here are some shots from previous yrs, two of which were awarded as part of the Orchid Society of Alberta's juried art show in 2023.
I got my first miltonia orchid. Look at the size of this bloom!
The tag says it's miltoniopsis hajime ono 'A'.
