In the near future, the USA becomes the only country still reliant on fossil fuel extraction after effectively enshrining the industry into law. The country still hordes its tons of petroleum, securing the resource after every other country in the world successfully transitioned towards renewables. This leaves the rest of the world forced to invest in carbon capture technologies to negate the CO2 still being pumped into the air by the only country left standing in the past.

Guten Morgen an einem trüben Morgen in einem schneeweißen Wien.
Lese gerade in #TheGuardian darüber, wie das UK-Verteidigungsministerium #SciFi - Autor*innen anheuert, um besser für Krisen gewappnet zu sein. Offenbar sind angesichts der gegenwärtigen und zukünftigen Polykrise Imagination und langfristiges Denken gefragt. Ich habe ja schon immer gesagt, dass die #NearFuture sich immer mehr in die Gegenwart verlagert.

Die Begriffsdschungel der Subgenres von #Fantastik bzw. #SpeculativeFiction wird neuerdings erweitert durch den Begriff der #nearfuture. Der letzte #Phantast @Literatopia hat sich diesem Begriff gewidmet.
Man gewinnt den Eindruck, dieses Subgenres trendet. Das Eigentümliche daran: Rasch stellt sich heraus, dass durch den Klimakollaps die nahe Zukunft unmittelbar zur Gegenwart wird, d.h. die Gegenwart die Fiktion rasch überholt und sich als real erweist.

In Penumbra, I have a scene where Leander is mistaken for a corpse (by some), but that's because he becomes a vampire.
