@purrperl

Thank you for this comment. I came here to say something similar.

Stoicism is a great thing, but it needs to be interpreted in a way that does not lead to a capitalism-compatible milquetoast philosophy that is then used by privileged people to justify their apathy and egoism.

(similar is true for the way how many westerners understand eastern spiritualism and are then happily more concerned about their yoga mattress and shit than of the living beings around them).

Taking these pitfalls in mind, stoicism and meditation-ish self-care can help a lot to avoid breakdown while fighting this horrible machine. :black_sparkling_heart:

Sometimes contemplative practice instructions I've known of for decades come to me now with a sort of "oh, that's what that means." 🙂

In tonight's #meditation it was "Have no gaining idea."

Simple, but hard to put into words:

If I'm trying to make something happen — that's too much. It's too much agency. Too much is "booted up," pursuing things and evaluating things.

Especially hard to put in words is the alternative. It's something like:

This moment, as it is, is what does the practice.

You don't need any reason to laugh. Don't take my word for it. Just make yourself laugh, right now, and not just a chuckle, I mean deep gut laughter.

Why am I talking about this?

Because the answer to despair is laughter. It breaks through the illusion fear creates and allows you to see all of the choices and paths in front of you, the ones that fears' illusion obscures and hides from you.

Bonus questions: Where does laughter arise from? Is it a created thing?

Introducing the "Sound of Meditation" update with many new and improved interval bell sounds (including softer-sounding and wooden options) as well as five new soundscapes.

I really hope the new sounds will bring you lots of joy and enhance your meditation practice!

Also, I’d like to give a big shoutout to everyone who sent me suggestions for new sounds - thank you 🙏

I’ve known some markedly altered and rapturous states in the course of my life. I’ve also had a number of remarkable psychic and precognitive experiences. But as I continue to practice and to engage in #meditation, I increasingly have the sense that for me the real point of it all is to appreciate the present moment the way it is, as an utter and matter-of-fact miracle.

❤️ 🙏

Continuing the instructions on meditation for beginners - here I discuss the technique of meditating on the breath.

Whether you remain mindful of the breath or count the breath to increase concentration, Anapanasati is a powerful meditation technique that brings peace and tranquility to the mind.

This can be used effectively at the beginning of every meditation session to prepare for the main practice or as the main practice itself.
