Attended a hard ground etching course at my local print making workshop. We did the Edinburgh Etch process which uses a non-toxic chemical (ferric chloride). It can be an irritant so you need gloves and safety googles. It’s a dream to make marks vs regular engraving using intaglio tools. You can do delicate marks. #printmaking #etching #edinburghetch

Strictly speaking it's still a WIP as I just saw one part where I'll add a shadow, but apart from that I consider it done.

I'm quite happy with it, during the whole process I feared adding a detail or messing up something that would make it lose its "organic" feel, but it didn't happen. Even if lights and shadows aren't so realistic (have you ever looked closely at light playing on a snake's scales? It's crazy!), they bring the effect I wanted and it still looks like a convincing enough snake to me :D

All of the Original Illustrations From Charles Dickens’ Novels Are Available To View Online via My Modern Met [Shared]

The Charles Dickens Illustrated Gallery has archived all of the original images featured in Dickens' work throughout his creative career. Dr. Michael John Goodman, who is also the creator of the Victorian Illustrated Shakespeare Archive, had the idea to digitize the art from Dickens' novels during the COVID-19 lockdown.

“The world of Dickens illustration is beset with poor reproductions of the source material, so for this project, I have searched out what I consider to be some of the best editions that feature the original illustrations printed to a decent quality,” Goodman explains. After collecting and scanning the images, he even cleaned them up in Photoshop, so that they look as crisp as possible.

Le dessin préparatoire est fait sur le vif, lire le texte alternatif, pour l'anecdote (vraiment le alt text ici, c'est si vous êtes trop trop fan et pour les mal-voyants comme prévu à cet effet, j’ai pensé qu’une anecdote en lien serait plus sympa. sinon aucune certitude à poster çà en ce moment,

Je m’installe, il fait soleil (j’ai joué avec le peu de nuages dans le ciel et les traits évasifs, flemmards et fatigués sur la gravure), le silence de la zone portuaire est agréable. Un quart d’heure après, le silence m’a semblé être ponctué brièvement par un ouvrier en haut d’une grue s’exclamant hilare et moqueur « ah un artiste ». J’aimerai ne pas le comprendre, mais « quoi ?, too much », puis silence radio de la zone portuaire, toujours agréable. Impassible parce que je connais le truc depuis longtemps (en fait, non, je ne comprends rien, mais je connais le truc). Les murs tagués autour de luttes passées, ces nouvelles barrières munies de caméras empêchent dorénavant toute tentative de vider les silos de sa denrée.

2023 marked the 125th anniversary of the birth of artist M.C. Escher. For this occasion, Grafische Werkplaats (The Hague, NL) invited me to work from the theme 'infinity' while using a printmaking technique of choice. This provided a great opportunity to learn how to make etchings.

The image depicts a wild storm in which ships are being swallowed by an abstract spiral. The center is surrounded by fire, thundering clouds and a turbulent sea. The ships symbolize man's subservience to the forces of nature.
