There are tons of Matrix messengers, even there element a.d elementx, schildi, fluffychat, neochat and many many Servers.

Matrix is one of the few systems I know I can directly interact with desktop, videochat.

It is used by govs and military, so there is their need it remains save and secure.

#Signal#Briar#XMPP

Just setup the latest element w/ embedded element call, lk-jwt-service and livekit and now have fully self hosted videoconferencing in matrix.

Documentation and implementation since yesterday is at a point where it's easy to follow and deploy w/o having to host a separate element call web service.

I'm a bit concerned about abuse potential, for now I've locked down lk-jwt-service w/ haproxy to only talk to users of my local homeserver.

I have now filed a bug report about the web version of #Element (the flagbearing #Matrix client) constantly using/waking my CPU while it is unfocused in a background tab in Firefox: github.com/element-hq/element-

I'm hoping I'm not the only one observing this issue, and that some power saving improvements can be made, because to me this would look like a big drain on battery life for modern #laptops that *need* you to let their CPUs sleep while idle.

ElementX is *so* much faster than the current stable versions of Element and its various soft forks (I'm currently using SchildiChat).

As I've said before, I'm guessing it will take another 6-12 months for all the Matrix 2.0 upgrades to be rolled out and fully stabilized in the various app and server software. But if ElementX performance is anything to go by, the new and improved Matrix ecosystem will be well worth an open-minded test.

Some subtle advertising here from Element/Matrix

I wonder what inspired them?

Need to manage group chats? Use our identity management and group access controls to synchronise with sources such as Microsoft Active Directory. Element gives governments a consumer-style messaging app, but with enterprise-grade control.

I said it before on Mastodon. I'm reposting this again. Comparing #DeltaChat and #Matrix together, if you want hassle free and consistent messenger for private #E2EE chats, don't go for Matrix. DeltaChat is way better.

However, if you want something like a public forum, or a public chatroom, don't go for DeltaChat. Matrix is way better suited for that. And DeltaChat does not support public groups at all. In DeltaChat groups, there is no admin or moderator and everyone have got permission to remove or add the others.

I think I have to write a longer post on my personal blog about these two, comparing them together.

PS: Another Matrix encryption bug few minutes ago triggered repost of this.

CHRIS HEDGES --> The Secret Military History of the Internet (w/ Yasha Levine) | The Chris Hedges Report

The internet, from its inception, was created as a tool of mass surveillance. Yasha Levine traces the origins of the web in his book, and how its origins in counter insurgency shape its function today

P.S. I recommend everyone encrypts all their communications. I recommend using Element Client to do this. Good Luck

Uuuh, apparently an underlying problem with matrix-js-sdk that breaks even third-party clients? Nothing works, such a classic. :D

Guess I'm locked out of my private DMs again! Such trustworthy software, very Discord-alternative, much wow.

For instant Messaging apps, as an alternative to Whatsapp, Signal etc..

It should have a Non-US ( #Element is based in UK), and a Privacy label.
Also, it is #opensource and #federated

Although many people are flocking to #signal now (which is a lot better then Whatsapp), Signal can not be controlled by US government, it can be taken down by them. At this point, even that should be taken into account.
Element uses the #Matrix protocol. It is awsum
