Welcome to Sepkoski's Online Genus Database!
strata.geology.wisc.edu/jack/

"The purpose of this database is to allow users to easily search and summarize Sepkoski's global genus compendium on the basis of Evolutionary Fauna, Phylum, or Class. You can recover customized lists of genera and their stratigraphic ranges (according to Sepkoski) as well as summaries of genus richness and taxonomic rates of evolution. As time permits, I will be adding additional features to this database, including the ability to search for a genus name and to obtain lists of taxa by stratigraphic interval."

@tchorix & I are presenting on data modeling within #PostgreSQL in a storytelling fashion at @posetteconf, a free virtual event hosted by #Microsoft that's all about #Postgres this June 10-12!

Want to tune in? Add the livestream to your calendar, or register (optionally) here: posetteconf.com/2025/talks/pos (or, wait until the recording is out after the event!)

Illustrations will be completed by Scarlett Riggs, who we are very excited to be working with.

This talk should be great for anyone that's looking to understand things from the perspectives of an application developer, and a seasoned database administrator; here, you'll be able to learn when it is best to handle logic within the database vs. the application!

Looking forward to seeing you there 📽️

#Biketooter :When planning a #bike #route with #FOSS and #OSM based #routing engines, such as #Brouter / #Bikerouter ,the result analysis frequently shows some #surface percentage as "unknown". I guess that's because the #information is missing in the #OpenstreetMap #database .However, when I upload the same track as #GPX into a #commercial #biking application, such as #Komoot or #Cyclers ,the "unknown" has disappeared, while they are also based on OSM. How come?
