Those slides are here: https://www.cdc.gov/acip/downloads/slides-2025-04-15-16/02-Rizkalla-COVID-508.pdf.

Executive summary: solid improvements in neutralizing antibodies, especially for 65+ yo people. Plus these improvements hold up over time! They also looked at relative vaccine effectiveness against PCR+ cases, with the PCR testing triggered by reported covid symptoms. Again, very solid results for people with one or more comorbidities, and people with one or more comorbidities who are older. This is all great for keeping more people out of the hospital. Also, no safety signals in this 11,417-person study.

So .... are we in the US going to see this? Or any updated covid vaccines? Will access be restricted to specific subgroups? The covid work group intro slides at https://www.cdc.gov/acip/downloads/slides-2025-04-15-16/01-Schechter-COVID-508.pdf suggest a discussion and vote on 2025-2026 vaccines at the June ACIP meeting. But ACIP doesn't make the final decision; the CDC leadership does. Which apparently falls to RFKJr for the moment, since the CDC doesn't have an acting director right now. Cue the approaching danger music from Jaws.
