A little #beforeandafter comparison, demonstrating my editing style/aesthetic. This shot was in B&W from the get-go: on the left is a straight out of camera JPEG version (created in camera, I set RAW and JPEG creation in tandem) of it that served as a proof for viewing, on the right is the end result after making adjustments in #lightrooom and #photoshop (don't remember exactly what I did but it was minimal, including lifting shadow/dark tones a bit). Sometimes #lessismore as I tread a fine line between natural looking and vibrant w/photo editing. Model: Karina. Camera and lens info: #fujixt3 and #tamron1770mmf28. Settings: 48mm (71mm full frame equivalent), ISO 400, f/2.8, 1/180 using natural light, aperture priority mode. #blackandwhite #monochrome #blackandwhitephotography #monochromemagic #photography #photo #photoediting #demo #comparison #portraiture #portraitphotography #woman #model #cowgirl #countrygirl #flower #cowboyhat #rural #rurallife #adobe #fujifilm #tamron #aperturepriority #naturallight #naturallightphotography #naturallightportrait
I could not decide which of those photos I am going to process and post here.

Instead I procrastinated and started another project:
I am currently using Excire Foto as a digital asset manager. Running on Win10. With Win11 coming - which I would really hate to use - I installed digiKam. I wanted to see if I can survive without Windows.
Comparing Excire to digiKam so far showed a better performance for Exire. Ok, yet I have to setup an Linux maschine to test digiKam in its native habitat.

And to make it clear - I have no aversion to paying for software - If I could buy Excire for Linux.
Same goes for Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher. This will be another post.

Did another Inkscape vs. Illustrator test and while for me Potrace (which is what Inkscape uses) outperforms Illustrator on b&w / lineart drawings, Illustrator does win the full-colour battle.

Basically Illustrator is more accurate, better capturing the details, while Inkscape is a bit glitchy and looses some destails.

This is made using 16 colours for both pieces of software, tweaking the settings to get the best possible result.

I had to vectorize an illustration I have made for a client, and first tried Illustrator, with really poor results (as you can see below), and this despite trying every possible combination of settings. I just never looked even halfway decent.
Then I tried #inkscape and to my surprise it produced an excellent result, even with the default settings!
Ok… I shouldn't be surprised actually 😀
