I think I had the hashtag for that, but it was a year or two ago, and I forgot what it was.
I am still looking for a multizone heating control for my house. Well, looking is a big word. I was looking for the solution in the past. I've noticed, there is nothing matching my criteria. I've become disappointed and stopped looking further. And the very particular criterium is that whatever is the solution, it should work locally. It might require access to my LAN, but it should work properly without internet.
As a reminder, and for a full disclosure: I've found one such solution, I bought it, and I've returned it promptly because of low quality: half of the devices, including the main hub, has failed during first two weeks. Also, I've found some practices of the company as dubious to the point I am not willing to have anything from them.
Getting back to the story.
I needed to buy some stuff (the bathroom scale, and the tripod for the camera). I went to the local Media Market shop. And wandering around I've noticed the section called smart home. I am rather picky about this stuff, but out of pure curiosity I've checked what they have. There was the usual proprietary crap: google home, alexa. ring, etc. But also there was a starter kit for controlling home heating made by Tado.
Quick check on the internet, and it seems there are two major lines of products. The old ones (Tado), and the new ones (Tado X, based on Thread/Matters). And from a quick glance it seems it might be suitable for me. Unfortunately, the data provided on the vendor's site is focused on the selling points for a general public, and it is not enough for me. So, yeah, they are mentioning a troubleshooting for cases when you tado bridge cannot connect to the internet. But it is still unknown if the internet is required for performing local functions. And what "internet" means in this case. I can fully imagine that for someone writing the documentation "internet" means connecting to the Wi-Fi router. Which might mean either LAN (so I can connect to a web server of the device and set up things), or it requires a working internet connection and setup goes via cloud. The first one is acceptable for me. The last one - nope.
So, if by any chance, you control your heating by Tado X, and you are able to dispel my doubts, I will appreciate it. Especially if you have successfully integrated it with Home Assistant.
