Standing beside a thicket of tall green weeds along the shore of a large lake. A thicket of tall shrubs is just to our right. The far shore of the lake is heavily wooded. The sun has recently set across the lake, still leaving a bright orange disk along the horizon. The pale blue gray sky is mostly cloudy, the cloud bottoms tinted bright pink or dark violet by the post sunset. This is mirrored on the lake surface, which is being rippled by a good fresh breeze.

An intensely green forest of tall trees surround a small clearing lushly carpeted with ferns. The late afternoon sun is low above the far horizon, shining through the leafy branches of the trees and casting long shadows across the ferns. Through the canopy there are glimpses of a soft blue sky.

Sunset cloud explosion. New Britain Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. July 20, 2020, 8:05 PM.

We are standing next to a large gray boulder on the shore of a lake. A bright green leafy shrub is growing to the right of the rock. The surrounding ground is blanketed with a leafy green ground cover that from a distance resembles grass and small green shoots. The far shore has a wide band of that same green ground cover alongside the lake and then a forest of tall trees. The sky is mostly a soft gray blue, with gold and orange hazy clouds along the horizon on the left, where the sun has just set behind the forest. A large, interesting cluster of clouds is drifting above the woods. The bottoms of the clouds are dark gray, but their tops are painted gold by that setting sun.

A wide, sluggish stream surrounded by lush green grassy wetlands is feeding into a large lake. A few small leafy shrubs and gray boulders are scattered across the marsh, a cluster of tiny bright yellow wildflowers grows along the near bank to our left. The marsh ends at the edge of a forest that encircles the entire lake. The pale blue gray sky is very cloudy along and just above the horizon, light gray clouds with deep blue shadows. At the top edge of the clouds the recent sunset is adding pink shades.

Tiny yellow flowers sunset. A thick swirl of clouds and haze brings on the sunset a bit early. New Britain Reservoir, Southington, Connecticut. August 3, 2020, 6:47 PM.

We are alongside the shore of a lake. The flat ground in front of us is covered with small bright green leafy shoots speckled with hundreds of little yellow flowers. Several dark gray boulders rise above this low ground cover in the foreground. The far lakeshore has a wide strip of these plants, which resemble grass from a distance. Beyond that strip, a low wooded ridge rises. The sun is low in the sky not far above that ridge, partially burning through the haze and looking enormous. The sky is a swirl of thin clouds and haze around the sun, tinted pale orange and gold. The sky and far shore are mirrored on the dead calm lake surface.

Beneath a soft blue evening sky with thin hazy clouds along the horizon and a few wispy clouds above, we are standing beside a pond that is encircled by a forest. Two low ridges gradually slope down towards a point along the far shore. The sun has just set behind the righthand ridge, silhouetting the forest and both ridges. An arc of sunbeams is streaking upward from the point where the sun has set. The sky is mirrored on the still surface of the pond.

The sky is a deep twilight blue streaked with clouds: orange and gold tinted along the horizon and bright pink above, mirrored on the lake below. We are standing beside a patch of tall lush green grass along the near shore. It is speckled with red violet wildflowers. There is a darker green bush beyond, right on the shoreline.
