Brian Vastag
The stories I'm seeing on Reddit & elsewhere about delays to Social Security Disability Insurance payments seem a little misleading...mostly it's people saying they're not seeing the deposit a day or two early like they used to. Maggie Maybe
The weirdest part of this is when Bernie Sanders is making a speech and he’s talking about how it takes so long to get disability benefits that elderly people who apply for disability end up dying before they get benefits. But if these cuts go through more people will die, and we’re not going to allow that. People cheer, and I am so confused.

It’s great that they’re not going to allow more people to die waiting, but to acknowledge that this has been happening forever, this IS the way it is, then to claim this isn’t what America is about is blatant bullshit.

So they were OK with the regular amount of people dying waiting for disability, it was fine that I ended up homeless for years after working 25 years then becoming disabled, but when that happens to more people that’s where they draw the line?

Cool, but let’s see it. Good. Make it stop then.

https://youtu.be/oeBgGg48mp8

#SocialSecurity #SSI #SSDI

Maggie Maybe
This is Biden’s SSA. I hope that everyone who needed to apply for disability for long Covid got their applications in, though it’s not looking good for anyone, it’ll he worse now. They can just stop processing applications like they did with the student loan forgiveness applications that people were entitled to have processed based on the contract they signed.

This isn’t mine, it’s from Reddit.
I would absolutely love to see what evidence they have that these people will improve if they are disabled by long Covid .

And the sad thing is that people who got sick because they were working with the public are more likely to be denied because they have experience in customer service or retail or whatever customer facing position they had, so the SSA can say that they could do something else.

People who get disabled and professional jobs where they had specific training are more likely to be successful in their SSDI claim because they aren’t going to expect a brain surgeon to go work at the mall just because they’re too disabled to do brain surgery anymore.

#SSDI #MECFS #LongCovid #disability #SSI
#SSA

Maggie Maybe
@MisuseCase @ProPublica for a brief moment in March of 2020 my MECFS was in remission and I hadn’t realized what Covid was going to be yet.

I had been working a part-time job since January 2019, and I felt well enough I was considering increasing my hours but if I earned even $20 more a month I would lose $150 in food stamps, I would lose the Medicare premium the state pays for me, my rent would go up because it’s based on my income, and when I did the math on the amount of benefits I would lose just by picking up an extra shift I wouldn’t come out ahead. And I physically couldn’t work enough to make up for the benefits I would lose by working just a little more.

And I’m glad I gave up on the idea rather than do it and get infected.

At least with #SSDI they give people a way to move forward, you can do a thing called the ticket to work and you can earn as much as you want and keep your benefits for a while, then after they stop the checks you can still keep Medicare for a few years. And they claim that at any point during those years if it turns out you have to go back on disability you just let them know and your payments restart. Idk that I would trust that AT ALL, but that’s how it’s supposed to work. And if I was well enough to work full-time my old career is paying a lot of money these days, it would be great to be able to bank a bunch of cash. Unfortunately, I am actually disabled.
