Joey is very timid and only recently started relaxing around me enough to where I don't need to use zoom to take his picture. Roy is much younger and wants to play when Joey wants to lie in the sun. I believe Joey is solar powered.

#Roy on a fine #Caturday hanging out with me outside in the morning as I sit having some tea. He likes it when I share his outside world with him. He especially likes taking me on short little walks around the neighborhood but to outside observers those "walks" probably look more like me standing in front of various houses as he examines their front yards.

He stood or rather sat guard for me from top of 9 foot fence for a while.

#Roy is finally recovering from his illness and treatment. Been almost 6 weeks.

I didn't realize until the last few days how sick he'd been because he basically hugged my hand in various ways for over 3 hours.

Today and last night his behavior seemed to pop back to normal.

Anyone who thinks these creatures don't have complex inner emotional lives doesn't know them. He was basically reaffirming our bond for 3.5 hours.

My hand basically didn't move. Roy did.

Here's #Roy staring at me from under his fleece blanket. He's not mad but he heard a noise outside and probably wanted to see what I thought about it. Don't get wrong idea, he's almost never under blankets like this but today was a strange and difficult day for reasons we won't get into since it wasn't our fault. But we had to deal with it anyway.

Roy seems to be better, he's meowing again. Off antibiotics 1 week. Was hard on him. Always use probiotics from day 1!

Here's #Roy on his 8 foot fence starting to recover from his antibiotic treatment. Hoping it worked because it was really hard on him. And me. Thankfully I found Pet Honesty probiotic treats halfway through because he started getting really sick. He loves them almost as much as Delectables licky sticks, which were his reward every day after he got his syringe dose. Finding probiotic treats that he loved was a life (and carpet) saver. Here's to his health returning.

#Roy giving me stink eye after a few days of awkward antibiotic administration. I suspect he is starting to wonder if his buddy has gone insane. Second is Roy feeling poopy after 8 days of antibiotics.

Sorry big guy, I know it sucks. But I can hear your meow again. Not 100% but audible clearly over distance.

He's been really good about my clumsy efforts to give him his liquid meds via oral syringe. But there are limits. Got him probiotic treats today. He likes them.

#Roy on #Caturday looking sad. Not only did he get #frontline flea treatment yesterday, which makes him groggy, we had to go to vet because he's lost his voice and may have throat infection so on antibiotics. Vet was scary for Roy because they took him away so his buddy wasn't there with him. To make matters worse, he hurt his rear leg again 5 days ago doing his death defying urban parkour running, though that heals quickly on its own. 2nd pic is his new box, and mug on 2nd ledge #CatsOfMastodon

#Roy has been having trouble with the false fall heatwave. His fur coat was thickening for fall and winter coolness when suddenly he got slammed with 35C temperatures. His solution was to use this three tiered ledge and find the coolest level. First he started at top, noted hot air does rise, then tried squeezing into second, with the big plant, then settled in the lowest. So his conclusion confirms the laws of physics.

#Roy was lying on his chair giving me slow blinks for a long time. He usually looks out the window but turned around so he could do his slow blinks at me. He's been really happy lately and is getting very relaxed. It's nice seeing him unwind so much. He's been doing that slow blinking thing a lot lately. He's not always busy mauling his toys! It's easy to see when he's peeking at me because his black eyeliner makes it obvious when his eyes aren't fully closed (pic 2).

I had no idea cats have so many face whiskers! 48 on average apparently! The light from evening sun briefly highlighted all of them as #Roy sat looking out the window. It's like a forward facing whisker sensor array! I don't know how I'd never noticed it before. Must really help at night. As you may know, their bodies also have shorter whiskers all over. These are more obvious against black fur. I used to think they were gray hairs. But nope. Sensors.

Here's #Roy checking out his new ledge. What finer way for #CatsOfMastodon to spend #Caturday than making a new ledge. Making these ledges is kind of addicting. This one features a new design I'm hoping can be extended to a full ledge staircase but wanted to check its stability. It will take a few days to see if Roy likes it. Higher is better in general since that makes Roy taller. Seeded with #catnip tincture and a pinch of catnip. Roy approves. In last pic he adopts zazen posture to test it.
