Yesterdays walk. Many trees recently down. Skunk cabbage flowers mostly done and leaves unfurling. Moss looking lush.

Fresh bright green leaves of skunk cabbage unfurl while flanked by two dark red and green streaked spathes of their flowers along side a dead-leaf covered stream bank. The small stream is out of focus behind.

Low angle afternoon sunlight illuminates a skunk cabbage spathe that has opened to reveal the clublike spadix within. Next to this is an emerging still coiled green leaf among the dead leaves on the forest floor.

An old stone wall cuts across a forest stream. A newly fallen tree now partially blocks one part of the stream channel. A person stands on a stone in the wall on the far stream bank. Bare deciduous trees line the stream with a line of conifers beyond. The blue sky is partially filled with white clouds.

Several kinds of bright green mosses form small patches on a boulder also covered with light green, grey and white crustose lichens.

Went for bushwhacking hike this morning to check out the vernal pools and see if there were any mushrooms. Plenty of pools, no frogs or lizards yet, and a slim selection of mushrooms. Lots of moss!

Vernal pool deep in the woods. There’s big boulders, logs, and branches in it and everything is covered in a thick layer of moss. Trees reflect in the water and where there’s less glare you can see the thick leaf accumulation underwater

A large tree that fell across a trail years ago and the ends were cut to clear it off path. Tree consists of two main trunks thickly covered in mosses and lichen, the closer and bigger trunk has some form of shelf mushroom growing on the cut end.
