Steve's Place
When I was in Little League, and stationed in RF (when I wasn't catching or an occasional first baseman - we had needs) when a ball was hit high in the air in my direction as a runner tagged at 3rd base. I caught the ball. The runner took off. I heaved that ball, in the direction of home plate, with everything I had.

Everything I had included throwing the ball over the head of the catcher, over the 2 story chain link fence, over the bleachers, and into the parking lot.

What reminded me of this?

Anyway, with Hicks chased, runners on 1st and 2nd, and 1 out, Rodriguez came in and gave up a single to LF. Instead of throwing to the cutoff player, the ball was heaved to home plate, where, on one hop, it almost arrived in time to tag the runner. Instead, it bounced away.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez, who ordinarily would have certainly backed up the catcher, apparently was caught marveling at the throw which failed to arrive in time to tag out the runner at home.

Giants 4 Mariners 3, after 6.

#SFGiants #Mariners #MLB
