To me it's just that #ThinkPad as a brand has really died as every single Device is a #downgrade in #repairability & #upgradeability compared to my #X230Tablet:

They have #SolderedDownRAM even on P-Series #Workstation machines, not just cheap cheap #Lenovo consoomer devices.
Batteries ain't toolfree-swappable anymore!
#WWAN modules are worse (i.e. #Fibocom #850GL aka. #Intel #XMM7360)
#Linux support gets worse and neither Lenovo nor @ubuntu feel responsible on a "#Ubuntu-certified Workstation" (i.e. #P15v)
Less & Worse #Docking options.
Most machines don't offer Linux or to eveb to opt-out of #Govware noone should pay their overcharged premium for (in fact #Microsoft pays Lenovo $25 for every #Windows #preinstall so they don't ship Linux, they don't even pay the $10 for an #OEM-#UEFI-Key, much less the $135+ of a #SystemBuilder version they charge for!)

Personally, I wish I had €.€€€.€€€ so I could just develop the #NUCbook and be done with the #Enshittification of #Laptops / #Notebooks!

The camera "cover" on modern Lenovos give such a misleading sense of privacy: the prominently visible red "cover" (look you're safe, we don't see you now - haha) only covers the main camera but not the infrared one.
One could almost think it is intentional.. and some would think it's the lizards

Btw, why do you need an infrared camera on a work laptop in the first place - to shoot the next Blair Whitch Project?

(Note that the ir camera on the picture is black as the magic privacy marker was applied on it).

Closed camera cover on a Lenovo laptop. Even closed, it does not cover the infrared camera, which is giving users a misleading feeling of privacy.

So, I decided to max the RAM out on my #Lenovo #Thinkstation #P340. It takes 128GB of RAM. It gets here, I install it, machine just turns off and on. I troubleshoot, and if I pull the ram from DIMM slot 4, it boots fine. Not a bad stick as I rotate through them and they all test fine. I reinstall the original ram (2x 16GB sticks) and I notice the same slot is bad.

Call in to get warranty work, get the mobo swapped, same issue. While the tech is on the phone to get another mobo on the way, I get some idea that maybe it's an allocation issue since it's happening during POST- you know- like the old #BeOS >1GB RAM issue. I pull my 3.2TB Samsung PCIe AIC NVME and , machine boots and posts all ram- including DIMM slot 4. I try my NVME in another slot and same issue.

So, weird issue- I can't have a PCIe AIC NVME (or at least this one anyway) and have all 4 ram slots work in a Lenovo ThinkStation P340 tower system. You'd think for a workstation-class machine, this wouldn't be an issue. But here we are. 128GB of RAM or an additional 3.2TB of screamin fast PCIe NVME server-class storage.

Yes, #HorizontalCases are superior and if you can't have those or a #rackmount as a #deskside machine, you have proper cases with mechanical supports alongside the card to keep it stable.
