@william_shotts Shortly after I tried out Mosaic (the first publicly available web browser) for the first time, I was in the university computer Sun lab and a guy was showing his girlfriend the web.
She asked "what is this?" and he said "it's like Gopher, but for lazy people."
That always stuck with me.

I haven't logged to my #smallnet accounts for severals months. Now I'm in. The #gopher is still alive. The #geminiprotocol is active. I've checked my Comitium feeds, Bongusta, Antenna, Gopher Club. I updated my Tinylog. Spring has arrived, and the text-based web looks especially beautiful this time of year. ;-)
If you liked my post on #gopher, you can use any IRC client against the public servers from https://bitlbee.org to register an IRC nick and them create accounts from your registered nickname for services like #jabber, d*scord, steam, #mastodon, showing you chatgroups/chats as channels/queries. Your mastodon timeline it's a huge channel with special commands to reply/retoot and so on.

What linux server are folks using for gopher? I'm using pygopherd, but wow, gophermap file is super picky.
