#ChaseStrangio is a trailblazing #lawyer and transgender rights #activist, serving as the deputy director for #transgender justice at the #ACLU. As the first known #trans person to argue before the #SupremeCourt, he has been at the forefront of the fight for #TransRights.

Now, Strangio and the ACLU are #suing the #Trump over his #ExecutiveOrders banning #GenderAffirming care for #TransYouth and restricting legal recognition for trans, #intersex, and #nonbinary people. These actions threaten #healthcare access, prevent passport updates, and force trans people into #unsafe #detention facilities.

“We’re prepared to fight for our rights. President Trump will see you in court.”

Ms. Magazine · Women’s Rights Are Essential to Democracy. Why Do Philanthropists Treat Investments in Women as a Special Interest? - Ms. MagazineIn the last two months, the Supreme Court heard two case to limit nationwide access to abortion care. The chaotic state of play for abortion rights in the United States illustrates the consequences of failing to integrate efforts to strengthen democracy into strategies for advancing gender equity and vice versa. For philanthropic leaders, the twin goals of strengthening democracy and advancing gender equity presents a compelling case for simultaneous investment. Divorcing gender justice from democracy is inconsistent ideologically, and it’s also irrational and unnecessarily expensive. To separate them is to delay success and pay for it many times over.

#BonnClimateConference week one is coming to an end with countries from the Global North as usual pushing for #dangerousdistractions and #falsesolutions. Listen to @Melissa Moreano from the @Critical Geography Collective of Ecuador and @Ivonne Yànez from @Accion Ecoloògica talk about what we call #falsesolutions to the climate crisis. #FeministClimateJustice

#blackhistorymonth ✊🏾

Black history month will come to an end, however, here at GenderCC we celebrate and honor the life, work and legacy of black activists and scholars everyday and every single month through our advocacy work.

Today we are paying tribute to Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan environmental and political activist and the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

In 1977, Maathai founded the Green Belt Movement which is an indigenous grassroots organization in Kenya that empowers women and focuses on planting trees and environmental conservation. She was a pioneer in linking environmental protection to human rights. The Green Belt Movement has planted more than 130 million trees in Africa and helped more than 900.000 (according an estimation in 2016).
Maathai’s activism started from a dream that she had as a child living in rural Kenya, and she devoted her life to protecting the environment and promoting democracy and peace.

It is #blackhistorymonth and today we are honoring Vanessa Nakate, a Ugandan climate justice activist from Kampala who has inspired us and many more people across the globe! :vanessa: :earth:

Nakate started her journey as a climate activist in 2018 after becoming aware of the effects of climate change on the livelihoods of many Ugandans. Later, she founded the Youth for Future Africa and the Africa-based Rise Up Movement. In addition, she is the leader of Uganda’s first Fridays for Future climate strikes.

Thought her activism, she raises awareness about the implications and causes of climate change. She is a hardworking and determined activist who aims to bring the voices and experiences of people in the Global South to the global arena.
