M. Ní Sídach<p>One of the most counter-intuitive justifications for refusing to stop mindlessly competing and work co-operatively toward a shared common good is that it is more of a strain, takes more effort, with less return on investment than working alone.</p><p>The rationale most often heard is that the person is sick, disabled, tired, beaten down, overwhelmed, with the implication being that somehow a shared burden is heavier?</p><p>Based on that logic, extended families, communities, tribes, villages, towns would never form except by coercion.</p><p>It is a circle that cannot be squared.<br><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/COOP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>COOP</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/CooperativeCulture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CooperativeCulture</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/CooperativeCapital" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CooperativeCapital</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/MutualAid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MutualAid</span></a> to secure the <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/GneralWelfare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GneralWelfare</span></a> and a shared <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/CommonGood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CommonGood</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/EconomicDemocracy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EconomicDemocracy</span></a> for <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SocialDemocracy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SocialDemocracy</span></a></p>
Miguel Afonso Caetano<p>"The idea here is to impose rules that limit the quantity of finance that commercial banks can invest in problem sectors. For example, credit guidance can be used to scale down commercial investment in fossil fuel production on a binding, annual schedule. But it can also be used to reduce other destructive and unnecessary industries: SUVs, mansions, cruise ships, private jets, industrial beef, dangerous plastics, fast fashion, weapons, advertising, etc.</p><p>To grasp the power of this, and why it is needed, we need to understand something about money. Money represents command over production. Whoever issues currency – whoever creates money – can mobilize production to do whatever they want. This power is held by states and should be understood as a public good. After all, what is at stake is the mobilization of our collective labour and the common resources of our planet. But under capitalism, the power of money creation is largely franchised out to commercial banks that create money in the form of credit when they make loans."</p><p><a href="https://www.jasonhickel.org/blog/2024/8/20/credit-guidance-how-we-achieve-degrowth" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">jasonhickel.org/blog/2024/8/20</span><span class="invisible">/credit-guidance-how-we-achieve-degrowth</span></a></p><p><a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/Degrowth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Degrowth</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/CreditGuidance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CreditGuidance</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/Capitalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Capitalism</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/Money" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Money</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/EconomicDemocracy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EconomicDemocracy</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/PoliticalEconomy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PoliticalEconomy</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/Ecology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ecology</span></a></p>

This will allow society to ensure that everyone’s basic needs are met, and to make more rational decisions about investment and production — prioritizing ecological sustainability, for instance, over the destructive pursuit of profit at all costs.</p><p>This vision is not an expression of covetousness or “hate” of the better off. It is a demand for a world where basic principles of justice and decency prevail. By chalking up the socialist desire for a redistribution of wealth and power to envy, the Right dodges the fundamental moral question at issue between socialists and their opponents: Who deserves what? Are the “idle drones” entitled to the wealth the working class produces, or does the world belong to the workers?"</p><p><a href="https://jacobin.com/2023/04/socialism-capitalism-envy-resentment-conservatives-competition" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">jacobin.com/2023/04/socialism-</span><span class="invisible">capitalism-envy-resentment-conservatives-competition</span></a></p>

OpenSociocracy<p>Hi! Here is our introductory post! We are a small team working on open source tools to make sociocracy easier for others to adopt.</p><p>We started this project because we were interested in using sociocracy for our worker co-op but ran into hurdles figuring out how to manage our structure and meetings. So we thought "let's build what we need to make it easy for others too!"</p><p>Currently trying to <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/BuildInPublic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BuildInPublic</span></a>!
