Ich versuche die Funktionen der iOS Geräte zu kategorisieren, aus Nutzersicht. iPhone kommt ja von Telefon, und hat sein Dasein der #Kommunikation zu verdanken. Das ist die wichtigste Kategorie, sie umfasst telefonieren - wo ein Umstieg („de-apple“ oder #unplugtrump) nicht komplex sein dürfte. Dann kommen #iMessage (abgeschaltet, aber da tut‘s schon weh) und #FaceTime (naja) und… #Email (#iCloud alias Apple ID). Anderes ist ursprünglich nicht dem originären Zweck des Geräts zugedacht…

I switched from Thunderbird to Gnome Evolution several months ago. It's been great. Currently running latest flatpak on Debian Trixie with Gnome v48.

I do have one annoying niggle though...

I get a daily email from bringatrailer.com. It's basically a large-ish email of all the current auctions and it has a photo of each of the vehicles in the email. It can be a hundred or more images, lots of HTML.

I don't know if it is my slow internet connection (10Mbps) or if it is an issue with Evolution, but most of the time the email doesn't load all the images. It loads most images, but invariably not all. Re-opening the email makes it load all the images most of the time.

Thunderbird was always successful on the same internet connection.

So, I'm conflicted about whether I should open a ticket about this. On the one hand it is kind of a niche payload, on the other it should just work, and other clients handle it properly, or maybe it's some kind of lazy-load thing in Evolution giving up too early... I dunno.

I've been moving my important email off #Gmail to #Tuta since late last year.

Visible benefits are less spam, but the intangible benefits of knowing Google no longer knows when I get paid, when my credit score has changed, when my payments are due, or who I've just opened an account with, and isn't selling that data on are what makes it worthwhile.

It's also a great way to remind you to #unsubscribe from all the things.

Holy crap!
I really want to host my own email service, but I was just looking at mail-in-a-box and mailcow docs and it sound HARD! also the hardware requirements for mailcow are insane (8gb ram for 5-10 users? And 40gb space?)

Have been wanting to do this for a long time but these things are preventing me to.

Might do it when I have spare time and energy.
