One of the most important matters which #Depression forcefully taught me, is that we humans are social beings. We *need* to work in a community, we *need* to love and be loved. We *need* friends, family and mates.

And that social interactions are better be in person and physical. Social interactions through the network are good, too. Thanks to the Internet, we can collaborate on projects and befriend people while being very distant.

But social interactions through Internet can never ever replace in person social interactions.

If you are a computer geek like me and you are freelancer or you work remotely, Do find a coworking place and do NOT work from home alone. Perhaps you don't suffer from depression like me so working from home doesn't affect your mental health that much. But it still has its negative effect.

Ubuntu 25.04 Plucky Puffin released!

After 6 months of development of the Plucky Puffin version, especially bug fixes, performance improvements, and feature additions, Ubuntu’s Release Team has released this version! Not only is it released in the original distribution, but also in Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, and all other official flavors.

To upgrade your system to 25.04, either open the terminal and run do-release-upgrade as root, or open Software Updates and start the upgrade. Make sure that your packages are upgraded first and that you’ve enabled non-LTS upgrades.

To download this awesome release, check out the following links:

That there’s still no genuinely good #RDP client for #Android is such a bummer. Why is that, seriously? Are people just not using #Android devices as remote clients for #Linux or #Windows, or what’s going on here?

(And yes, I know there are alternatives to #RDP. I tried them. The user experience is just… bad. Like really bad.)

What makes it worse: modern #AndroidPhones are actually pretty great. Many come with a full-fledged Android desktop environment, and once you plug them into any USB-C dock, you basically have a powerful little #Computer — just with a really limited operating system. (Same applies to the #iPhone, by the way. I tried that too for the same use case.)

All it really needs is a solid #VirtualMachine setup (like #Debian or similar) or a decent #RemoteDesktop solution. But here we are, still stuck in a bad UI hell.

With a real (virtual) #Linux there would be no need to have both, laptop and phone, but one would do.

Gibs zu – du hast dich doch auch schon mal heimlich mit der KI unterhalten. Nein?!

Okay, dann oute ich mich hiermit. Und stelle meine brandneue Satire vor.

How can we make this, from @frog, famous?

"My standard for consent: pretend the thing I'm consenting to is being physically done by a person.

"It'd be super weird if I bought a used car & they asked me if they could follow me around.

"It'd be super weird for a stranger to ask to follow me around writing down the things I put in my grocery cart.

"If I called a taxi, it'd be super weird if the driver asked to look through my phone contacts & copy them down."

This is one of the best things I've ever read on the internet.

Seriously. You've formulated a fresh way of looking at ubiquitous internet surveillance — in a manner that cuts right through all the abstractions. Recasts the truly outrageous nature of what the techbros do to us daily, into basic human terms.

How can we make your insight famous? It deserves to lead off the next million discussions of this enormous problem.

So why is Microsoft insisting on pushing out a feature it is very clear users just do not want? What is the point of it? It just does not make any sense. Recall makes no sense. It is one of rather many functions that Microsoft wants to force people into using.

Personally I also do not want Copilot on my computer and the idea that there can be a key on my keyboard that I can press that will enable by mistake it is not what I would think most people want.

I believe that there should be a very clear line between what is on your computer and what is in the cloud. Forcing people to log into a Microsoft online account to use their computer is crazy. Having people mistakenly enabling OneDrive is another disaster.

I guess this is all a great opportunity for Linux.
